Hi, I wrote this little poem last night on atheism, I see a lot of people who become atheists often involves a death in the family, or a bad relationship with their father, and because God is seen as a father they reject God on this basis. they seem to be people who never received love from their parents and fell into the trap of ''its cool to be an atheist.''

The poem doesnt really stereotype atheists as such because even catholics when confronted with their evil sins brush it under the carpet with their anger etc... I do however think that people who are unreligious most of the time do so with atheism.

    Atheism

    Father Beat me
    Love was missing
    my wife died
    priest told me
it was all in Gods plan
    what a bastard!
    Love was missing.
    I'm a selfish person
    Love is missing.
I want things to go my way
    Love is missing
    I've never been loved
    dont know how to love
    get lost when people
    talk about love
God reveals to me my evil self
    I dare not listen
so I brush it under the carpet
    cover my ears and Scream
    ATHEISM!!!

Are there any more ridiculous blanket assertions you want to make there?

Somehow I feel like this after listening to Christian dogma and especially after reading the poem.

I have absolutely no clue why you see a relationship between a lack of love during childhood, resulting (?!) selfishness and atheism. Finally, I also believe that the contrary is true, atheists tend to listen much more than believers because they have nothing to lose.

What a load of tedious garbage. Clutching for there 'but there must be pain somewhere...' reasoning.
Most atheists I know are people, some involved with life, some not, some loved, loving, some not, some smart, some not, all of them mortal, some with close family connections, some without, but all of them with no belief in a deity. That's it. That's the connecting factor- no belief in a diety. Not in a jewish god, a hindu god, a moslem god, a norse god, or indeed any other god.
Death happens to everyone, regardless if you believe in a deity or not. Your 'poem' is wildly wide of the mark. Your thought process moreso.

Were these the people in your head or the "terribly bitter atheist meeting" you found?

I see it because thats what I hear from testimonies of atheists.

I'm not saying every atheist becomes one as a result thereof, but from my experience of the atheists I know, this is usually what I hear.

Then you really need to get out more and gain more experiences in your life.

Honestly, people like you terrify me!!

Try some individual analytical thought: you might be surprised what you come up with!

I am a happy balanced well educated much loved atheist!! :D

the poem has obviously rubbed some salt in the wound but look maybe I should get out more, but I am only writing upon my experience on the testimony of atheists around me.

of course, but I am only picking at one aspect of why I feel people become atheists.

While the OP contains the Poem, I think the responses will be the art:)

I feel like I'm meant to be offended by this.

I'm an atheist cause my father beat me, my wife died and no one loves me?

Look, I know this isn't AH, and my reply will most likely be looked down upon, and I apologise somewhat in advance for this, but I am afraid after reading the ridiculous OP the only valid comment I can make is:

    Lol...?

It seems you would like to think there is a wound, but honestly, this reveals far more about you and your rather myopic view than about atheism.

    Just go kill yourself.

Completely and utterly out of line!

Look, your poem suggest thses scared, shivering sad little creatures hidden in corners, deprived of light! And that is so inaccurate. I realise it is easier for religious folk to believe that somehow athiest are missing out etc. I think you should hop on over to the A & A forum and see that there are some of the most intelligent, reasoned arguements and never once have a heard an athiest say that they turned from god because he let them down. If anything turning your back on an unfair god is the same as believing!

Oh dear, it appears the athiets may have kidnapped a christianity thread!

I know more than one Christian who is a good and thoughtful person, I know more than one than on who is a hateful bigot. The difference is Stephen, I'm not going to go write a poem bashing an entire group of people and then throw my hands up in passive aggressive horror when called on it. Your poem is wishful thinking and projection. As someone above me said, you only need to open your eyes or pop next door to disprove your views.

Yeah, for the simple reason of Stephen posting his misunderstanding (an apology would be nice) and we can easily destroy his argument, much easier than those of PDN's and the like.

OP, I suggest you post any similar literary works in the Atheism & Agnosticism forum where the Charter does not hinder people from responding appropriately.

I am locking this thread to save me having to hand out infractions and delete pieces of muppetry all day long.

A note to Christian posters. This forum's Charter forbids attacks on the Christian faith. However, that entails a responsibility on your part not to start threads that are unduly provocative or could be seen as coat trailing.

    unnecessary poem?
