You could get a costume dress ring from Marks & Spencers (aprox €10/15) or you could get a fun fake plastic over the top ring from Claires Accessories.....?

I bought a 'fake' solitaire in Field's Jewellers, basically a real gold band with a cubic zirconium stone, cost about €100. It looked almost identical to a real engagement ring, so it had a big impact when I proposed, yet my fiance was then able to pick the proper ring that she wanted. Field's has a 30-day return policy so you can swap the 'fake' ring for something else once the real one is bought.

Be warned though, get one with a fairly small 'fake' stone or you'll end up having to buy a massive rock to match it!

If you have a ring of sentimental value that would be perfect, but I wouldn't get a cheap and tacky ring for a proposal - it's a serious thing to do...

I got my fiance a silver ring in Links, Dundrum, which i knew she would wear again. Be prepared to pay through the nose if she is picking it out herself, i know i did.
