Hi, I am wondering is it possible to apply for a J one year visa for the USA if you are deferring a year in college, or is it strictly a graduate visa only?
    Thanks

You have to be a graduate and have graduated within the last 12 months. And you must find an internship related to your field of study. You can't just work where ever you want. Not sure if you are talking about the new J visa or the existing J1 visa.

If it's the new one there is a thead here about it. Most of the real info about it is in the last few pages.
