Definitely no pre-qualification and unfortunately very low turn-out. AFAIK last year there were 6 competitors in the Novice Men Connacht XC and 0 (zero, none) in Novice Women. In the senior women, there were 5 women, all from the same club.

XC not in a healthy state in Connacht.

Maybe you should go along to one and see what the turnout is like. It might re-ignite your passion for XC. Hopefully there will be some other competitors there. Maybe you could get a few from the tri club to go?

For the Galway county - distances....Senior, intermediate, and novice men will race over 8,000m. Veteran men in the (V1 -V4) group will race over 8,000m. Junior men and veterans in the (V4 and above) group will race over 5,000m.

Senior, intermediate, novice, veteran and junior women will race over 5,000m

At All ireland level mens novice is 6k, intermed is 10k, intercounty senior 10k, interclubs senior 12K!! womens its 3k/4k/8k/8k

Re Connaght cross country it doesnt really fit in with most club runners plans, last year approx 80% of club runners who would run xc were in Dublin for marathon instead, prob be same his year its a aclendar thing

I think the problems are a bit deeper than a clash with DCM. The senior and junior connachts were held in February last year with just over 20 entrants in total in the 4 races, including 1 from Co Galway.
