Some good articles in latest runners world including one about a runner whose memories disappear every 48 hours... can't remember who he is, where he lived etc. Running gives his life structure. An amazing and sad story. He's done 2 marathons this year but within days of it they aren't even a distant memory. Well worth a read, for this and other interesting snippets and usual.

a runner whose memories disappear every 48 hours...

This could be handy and used to his advantage.

Athlete: "What we doing tonight coach?"

Coach: "Ah you know, those 400's in like 56 seconds with like 15 secs recovery between each"

    A: "Don't remember them"

C: "You do, we did them this day last week, remember, you got sick and couldn't function for like a day after them and you called me a f*ckin inbred, sheep shagging MF when I forced you to do the 16th one"

A: "No, don't remember them, are they hard"

C: "Nah, easy, you'll be grand!!!"

See the advantages of an athlete with no memnory. They won't remember what the pain is like so will have no inhibitions. They'll do as Jumbo Elliott said and run dumb, like a horse (although a horse probably can remember).

I think Runners' World is a great publication. OK some people say that it's the same stuff re-hashed every few months, but I've never found that. It quite often has inspirational stories (such as described by Slogger). There is loads of training material, and it's only the elite, or tunnel-visioned that might consider this of limited use.

The race reports are usually excellent. And of course there are loads of recipe ideas for the girls :)

The only thing that consistently annoys me are the front-cover models who float along without a bead of sweat or a hair out of place, smiling beguilingly. They don't run down my way.

or worse still the guys that just had great runs in Berlin would be none the wiser a few days after

    Blah...

So you're the one who buys it! You must feel special having a magazine printed specially for you.

If that was too cryptic for yas:
The name is Runner's World, which implies a single runner.

    :D

48 hours? My memory goes every 48 minutes.

I perfer 'running and fitness' mag. Seems to have a better mix of elite and 'fun runner' stuff. Also less repeating the same stuff over and over as runnersworld

I 'take' that as well, some good stuff, but I tend to skip over the college reports. Can't seem to get it local so I usually go into eason's in town once a month and pickup all the current running mags at once.

Find them all quite entertaining, but not worth the price you have to pay for them in Ireland. Generally buy one or two when in the UK, but that's about it.

The moment I got my hands on a copy of Marathon & Beyond I dropped all other running magazines. There's just no comparison.

Tried to subscribe to Runners World but they don't seem to take subscriptions from Republic of Ireland. Has anyone overcome this? Some articles I'd like to read are "subscriber only" content. Pity!

Did you try their .co.uk site. I subscribed for a year but did'nt renew as it was arriving 2 weeks later than it appeared in the shops. As for the subscriber only content - your not missing much.
