No P45, Company in Liquidation

Mods - please feel free to move this to the correct location if I'm in the wrong place.

A friend of mine lost her job suddenly last week. All the employees were taken into a room at close of business and told that the company was now in liquidation and that they were to hand in their keys.

They were told that there was no money to pay redundancy - that the government would be looking after the issue, and that P45s would be sent out in due course.

The only point of contact my friend has is a telephone number of the liquidator's representative. As of today, she has not received a P45.

From data on the Department of Labour site, it would appear that she needs to complete a Form RP50 and have it signed by her original employer. As she can no longer contact her employer, she is in a quandry.

What does she do? Apparently she can't claim any Job Seeker's Benefit until the P45 arrives.

This lady is in her early 60's.

Is there anything she can do? Is there anything I can do to help her? (I've downloaded all the data on claiming and details of additional allowances she might claim)

    Thanks in advance.

"If you are not given a P45 when you leave your job you should first ask your employer for it. If the employer does not supply it you should contact your local tax office. Revenue will contact the employer and obtain your P45 for you. If you have started a new job, Revenue will send you a new tax credit certificate so you will not have to pay emergency tax in your new job."

So contact revenue it seems. Has she actually been into the Social welfare office? Usually they are very sympathetic.

She should go into the social welfare office today.

Even if she does not yet have the P45, she can give that to them at a later date. Her claim will not start until she applies.

    Thanks.

She's been to the social welfare office and filled in forms. But she was told that if she didn't get her P45 by this week, she would have to fill in all the forms again...

She did say that they were lovely to her in the DSW.

As long as she keeps them informed they won't close her claim and she won't have to fill out the forms again.

This means dropping in to see them every week to let them know she still hasn't got her P45.

+1. Keep telling them over and over. And over again if needs be. Can she contact the liquidator and get a letter from them stating the company has closed? Perhaps that might suffice for Social Welfare.
