Sony and Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 will be released for PlayStation 3 in March 2010 in Japan.:eek::eek:
The game will feature 20 locations with over 70 tracks, full "Gran Turismo" mode for single-player and multiplayer, and some form of communication with the PSP.
Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show, developer Polyphony also confirmed some of the details that leaked onto its website a while ago - like video exports to PSP and YouTube, and hybrid and electric cars.
Those website leaks also told us to expect 1000 vehicles, 170 of which will have full interior modelling. Sony hasn't refuted any of the details.
Check out our recent hands-on with the game focusing on the damage modelling for more

I am worried by the fact I have only seen damage been shown on rally cars and never on any of the road cars.

Will the cop out and only allow it for the rally cars?

Edit: looking closly it may look like the R8's door is damaged. maybe.

It's a sham at this stage. For the first half of this year there was the Sept/Oct '09 date attached, then the Dec 4th date came out. I pre-booked and got it cheap with Amazon, but at this stage I couldn't be arsed with it.

I almost hope the reviews take into account the development time for this title (albeit not entirely fair), but if this game doesn't turn out to be bloody good, lets hope it gets slated.

For the last few months it seemed like it was going to be an x-mas release, would have made sense with the PS3 Slim and the PSP version coming out but March 2010? Christ, the only good thing about that is we finally have a date, regardless of how far away it is all the speculation is over.

P.S. balls to you PD and your getting my hopes up for x-mas at least now I can buy a few different games before GT5 is out.

Just last night I was saying how Sony really need this game for Christmas to push the PS3 against Forza... idiots!

At least I have Forza to look forward to...

I agree. I might have bought a PS3 for xmas this year if this had been out. With Forza releasing for my Xbox I cant really see any reason to buy a PS3 except that I might need a Blue Ray player, so it would be a player++ in that regard.

No back-catalogue support and the pricing point since launch has been mongo-tardo of Sony.

Loved Prologue, may still buy a PS3 for this and blue ray but you have to wonder really... :(

    DeV.

WTF? i thought Sony confirmed it for a 2009 Q4 Release? How can they confirm something and then push it back 3 months?

If this was any other game i would probably boycott it, but its just gonna be too good! I bet it will be xmas 2010 by the time its really out

Is japan not last for GT5 to be released?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,721 ✭✭✭Otacon

What were ye expecting? This is Polyphony Digital we are talking about. They are the only developer around worse than Valve for slipping release dates.

I'm actually glad its not coming before Christmas. I have MW2, Uncharted 2, PES2010, Forza 3 etc. to get.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,604 ✭✭✭Kev_ps3

mw2 will keep me occupied til then;)

More time to wait  I was really hoping to see this released before Christmas. I don't have a 360 so Forza means nothing to me. At least MW2 will be out soon.

Cant believe its gonna be March 2010! Isnt that God of War 3 and FFXIII territory? Why dont they just say its Summer 2010...

I wonder did the criticism of the damage modelling at Gamescon push the game back. In my view they shouldnt have bothered with damage at all. All we will hear about is how the damage isnt as good as Forza/Dirt etc etc. I dont care! Its a racing sim, if your playing it properly damage is something you dont have to worry about! I didnt miss it in GT1 through 4 and i wouldnt have missed it in GT5.

Turn10 are having a field day today i bet! I wonder how many GT fans will wander over to Forza now.

serious blow for sony. wonder why they did not get PD to commit to a date or do they give all the developers a free hand in when they hand over the game?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 74 ✭✭irishman123

Sony's TGS conference confirmed that GT5 is 65% complete :eek::eek: and that game will also release in March 2010. While this may be disappointing to people hoping for one of the most definitive racing games ever to release soon so they can get their hands on it, and for a Christmas boost, delaying it will only help them to make the game better.

Good lord, 65% complete? WTF have they been doing all this time? Delaying it is only losing them more market share, particularly with FM3 out within weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,267 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I know it says 65% complete but if it took them this long to get to 65 % it stands to reason we could be waiting another 3years for the game. GT5 for the PS4  in all seriousness though, there must be problems somewhere, by the time it comes out all the cars will have been about 3years old. Well done PD for ruining your own christmas.

I wish we could get more info on the game keep things ticking over until March 2010.

I thought Sony will push this game to Christmas or even closer but now.. I am on the way to GAME shop to get a console and.. Damn.. Looks like PS3 isn't any good. Especially when I dont need that BR player. Pity of the XBOX 360 size though :/

At the very least a bit of DLC for prologue would have been nice. Prologue is fine and all, but I've really worn out those tracks...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

I would be hoping for a decent step up from Prologue as well. Other than graphics the Forza 3 demo plays and feels a lot better than GT5 Prologue.

The last GT I had was GT3 but I think the damage is badly needed. I remember the jerking that would happen when you hit off another car or a wall, it was annoying or the top speed crash into a wall that ends with the car in a dead stop with no damage. I bought the bike version that was out on the PS2 as well, Tourist Trophy. I really liked it until I fell off and then the bike just flashes back on the track a few secs later with no damage, it was annoying then as well.

its easier to stay on the track because its more arcadey than forza2. is that what you mean by "feels" better?

There's no feel in the corners in Prologue, unless the 3 different controllers I've played it with were all broken. With Forza there's different levels of vibration for STM, ABS, TC or if you're about to start sliding. I find in Prologue the first hint I'm going to start sliding is when the tyres start screeching.

EDIT - Also the smooth framerate.

if you say so.. the only difference between F2 and F3 is it doesn't feel like your on a magic carpet anymore. unfortunatly T10 listened to the average moron on their forums and added pointless features like interiors (which look brutal), rewind and roll over. the graphics are only slightly improved which really stands out when your picking your car colour.

other than that its still a brilliant game and ideal for anyone who hates the childish handling of grid or need for speed and finds GT too hard.

why the hell do you need a Gold membership to get a demo! your effectively paying for it. Screw that

Dissapointed with the whole bunch of em . .

Its a week early to gold members I think, silver users can download it in a week.

Same with all demos if I remember correctly. Certainly for big titles.

Lol this is turning into a DNF still affair for GT5 which would not be good as it makes for a good headline title.

Just got Forza 3 demo, its good not amazing TBH. Main problem is the sound track now playable in game is sub par IMO from what I heard in demo doing about 10 or 15 laps.

Looks good but not spectacular too. I'll see what GT5 looks like and plays like. I do consider it the king of racing games (except when they added nitro boost).

Well I dunno, playing GT5P I find that it's pot luck entering a corner with 30mph difference in the entry speed, God knows how it will end up.

Have you really not noticed the feel the vibration gives in corners, try it with ABS/TCS off/on and see the difference.

    Cool...
Hopefully till then I can improve my skills on Prologue and become half decent!!
Right now I'm pretty **** at driving... :P

entering corners with your speed varying by 30mph is why your spinning out. you just cant get away with that in GT.

as for the vibration in forza, if you mean the vibration when you start to slide? it makes no difference to me. i can drive just as fast when the batteries are nearly dead and the pad stops vibrating. its inconsistent anyway. the majority of my crashes are a result of the floaty feeling in forza and not knowing if the tyres are spinning up on the exit of corners.

Read my post, sometimes I go into a corner with 30mph more than it says I should and it's fine, sometimes go in with 10mph more than it says I should and it's in the wall. There's no hint of a limit in GT for me, it's either way short of it or way past in.

As you come out of a corner in Forza feel the vibration and experiment with it, the fastest way through most corners is no vibration. Turn off the STM and drive like you usually do, you'll spin out on every exit. It's finding that sweet spot that makes Forza so good.

i know what you mean, but thats why its so good imo. with forza its just a matter of knowing the tracks and the driving is easy. in GT once you learn the tracks it at least takes skill to drive them well. you should try using the bonnet view for a while. i found that much better.

Hmm, GT5 or Forza 3 months earlier with car damage, online (GT better have this) and Ferraris.

The delay with GT5 I would put down to Sony's marketing department TBH. Its the same reason the PS3 does everything.

They are listening to everyone and trying to put everything in there so nobody is disappointed.

I imagine it is later than they wanted it to be but will be epic once it arrives much like the PS3 console itself :)

I just hope they don't overdo and end up with an unusable and overly complex menu system that ends up with you going through 30 fade out menus to start a race.

The amount of race categories could end up fragmenting the game too much for good online play a few years down the road, hopefully I'm wrong though. :)
