Cod Waw won't work

Hi, I'm new to the forums and slightly desperate. Ok...I bought Cod waw and can't get it to work for the life of me. I have tried:

    1) reinstalling the game
    2) updating directx10 drivers
    3) updating sound card drivers, as well as changing to 24ghz 24 bit audio

I click on either single player, or multiplayer and nothing happens. That's it. Absolutely nothing. Just goes to the windows screen and my comp stays at 2% capacity or whatever it normally runs at. Clicking on the icon right away again starts the launcher again no problem. My tech specs should have NO problem running the game. Specs are as follows:

    Vista 64 bit
    Intel Core i7 920
    GeForce GTX 275 896 MB
    6 GB DDR3 1333

Please help. I have spent 4+ hours on the internet looking for solutions and have tried most options. I am on my 10th install currently, since after every new thing I try I reinstall. I have had the game for 2 months and haven't killed a single person. Any help appreciated!

Side note: It may have something to do with the fact that, in my haste, I declined 'Punkbuster' while first installing the game, and have had problems with it ever since. When I try to install it not from the CD, Activision sends me to 3rd party sites which try to get me to sign up or pay fees before I can download. A) I've never had a game before give me a half-arsed option to download something that was mandatory, and B) If it was mandatory, they surely could pay for their own damn web hosting. Could this be the source of the problem? Thanks again!

Just wondering if you have UAC disabled or not, also did you right click on the game icon and run as adminstrator?

Hmmm not sure, I'll check into that after work. It should be noted that when I reinstall the game, single player runs fine but multiplayer says download patch callofduty.com/update.

When I go there, it is a jumbled mess of 3rd party patch download links. I've tried half a dozen times to download the different patches and apply them, and once I do the program has never run.
