It's using a system fairly similar to patmacs, only altered to better suit the smaller number of counties. I've decided to only include matches between the 12 counties competing for the Liam McCarthy, so that means the teams in D2 do not get points for wins over Westmeath, Down, Kerry etc.
League Div 1 win: 4 pts League Div 1 draw 2 pts.
League Div 2 win: 2 pts League Div 2 draw 1 pt.
League Div 1 winners: 10 pts runners up: 5 pts
League Div 2 winners: 5 pts runners up: 2 pts

    1R province win: 8 pts
SF province win: 12 pts (5 pts for draw)
    Provincial winners: 20 pts

    Qualifier win: 6 pts

    AI QF win: 12 pts
    AI SF win: 18 pts
    All-Ireland winners :36 pts

    Pos County Pts
    1st Kilkenny 120
    2th Tipperary 87
    3th Waterford 41
    4th Limerick 36
    5th Galway 36
    6th Dublin 33
    7th Cork 14
    8th Wexford 14
    9th Offaly 9
    10th Laois 6
    11th Antrim 4
    12th Clare 2

I'd say it's about right, bar one or two exceptions. Limerick and Cork finish above Galway and Wexford respectively simply because they reached further in the C'ship. Galway should really be higher than Limerick if we could give points on performances but it was the results that counted, and Limerick's wins over Wexford, Laois and Dublin edged it for them in the end. I wasn't so sure of Wexford finishing above Offaly since it was Offaly that won promotion from D2, but I suppose Wexford having that C'ship win over them was the big one.

Its the problem with a ranking system that is based solely on actual results and not performances or margins, for example Clare gave Tipp a fair fright in the Munster Semi, so to say that Tipp got 87 ranking points and Clare 2 is a bit silly, but hey look on hte bright side ye should pick up a few handy ranking points in Div 2 next year :p

Now that is a low blow ..... and we after shouting for ye, against our better judgement mind you, against the Cats this year. Shockin'

To be fair, you didn't win a single match all year*! Even Laois won a Championship game, and Antrim beat Wexford by 4-5 points in the league. I know Clare are obviously better than both those teams, but if you finish a year with 0 wins, 1 draw and 8 defeats you're bound to be near the bottom.

*farcical "relegation" play-offs excluded of course ;)

LOL I was shouting for ye in the u-21 if thats any consolation, but I'm afraid I wouldnt shout for the Clare seniors if they were playing England as long as Mike Mac is manager ;)

If you want farcical matches what about the Cork B team matches that were being played early on.

Fair enough this is tough year for Clare hurling to defend (bar the u21 win) but we are probably 8th or 9th even on this years standards.

There's the odd exception and then there's a ranking system not being worth a hill of beans.;)

Do you hear that low rumbling sound to the west? It is the sound of thousands of fingers drumming to pass the time until this years U21 management team take the senior reins. (And I mightn't shout for them against England either come to think of it, me brother, the only hurler left in my family, plays intermediate hurling in London)

We're thinking of keeping Davy and getting another one, we're thinking along the lines of him being from Antrim or Kerry ;)

Ok your seniors were bad, but still an U21 title. Not that bad of a year for the banner ?

The Clare hurling team and my local club team are the only two teams I've ever given 100% undiluted support towards, but a part of me is starting to identify with the second part of your statement to be honest...

I'm struggling to see the point of this really. To be properly objective, it needs to take in a lot more seasons, rather then just one.

LOL at Limerick in fourth. We were shocking this year to be fair. We nearly lost to Laois. Limerick will be in Clare's place next year

No I only meant in terms of the seniors. The mood at the end of this senior championship was as bad as I have seen it in years.

But the U21 win has turned it into one of the best years since 1997. I'd put it ahead of making the all ireland with Kilkenny because on that day we never got close to them.

Clare should definitely be near the bottom, difficult to see them below Laois and Antrim. They were really poor this year. Hopefully they will get a couple of players from the u21 team this year. The game could do with a couple more competitive teams
