Hi, looking some advice, my car cigarette charging is no longer working. Does any one know how much it would cost to get it fixed?

I'd check the fuse first, that could be blown.

Yeah, check the fuse, or if you're lightin cigarettes off it, make sure the base isn't destroyed with ashes!

If it's a case you have to reply the lighter base, it shouldn't cost a lot.

    +1
Happened last month in my girlfriends car and she was going to bring it to a mechanic so I checked the manual to see which fuse was the lighter and sure enough it had blown....cost to replace the fuse - 82c !

I have never charged a cigarette in my life.

It's a lot easier to light them I reckon. ;)

Hey, cheers for the replies. I should have been clearer but it's the lighter base that is the issue, does'nt charge anything,

Price a base, I spent feck all on mine from the main stealer - pretty sure I got the lighter and base for under €30

The lighter base is what the fuse is for....the lighter itself doesn't have a fuse.
If the base doesn't charge the lighter or anything else plugged into it such as a phone charger then it most likely just a blown fuse (I've changed lighter base fuses on about 6 cars now and it's always sorted it, never heard of the lighter base itself dying while the fuse was OK but that's not to say it couldn't happen, just you'd be very very very unlucky!).

Check the car owners manual to see where the fuses are located in the car (usually they are accesible from a panel in the lower dash below the steering wheel or the passenger/driver footwell....easy to get to) and which fuse the cigarette lighter adaptor is, so you know which one to check.

The fuse box will look like this

Any petrol station will sell these fuses. They come in different strengths but they normally sell a pack for 2 or 3 euro with 1 of each strength in the pack, so you'll have spares for future use.

Here's what you'll be looking for when you find the lighter fuse

If it's OK it will look like this (disregard the colour of the fuse in the picture what you're looking for is that the wire inside it is still joined in 1 loop)
    fuse.h2.jpg

If the fuse is Blown it will look like this (notice the break in the metal loop where it's burned out)

It's worth looking at this yourself first, as if you bring it to a garage you'll pay min 50 quid for labour (usually garages have a half hour minimum labour charge even if the job takes only minutes) and then VAT on that too !!!!

Here's a very good video showing step-by-step how to change the fuse if you're a bit hesitant about doing it yourself :

Best of luck, I'd be 99% sure this is your problem from what you describe !
