Avoid Lidl wines. Very rough in my opinion. €20 for half case of wine is a sure sign that it is muck.

At those prices you really can't fault any of them. Bought a few cases myself.:D

I suppose you could use them for cooking

    Deffo bargains for the price.

    Australian Cabernet Sauvigon
    Tried once and was fine.

    Chilean Cabernet Sauvigon
    Haven't tried.

    Australian Chardonnay Colombard
    Tired and recommended

    Australian Chardonnay
    Very nice.

For the prices you can't go wrong but if you buy a case
and don't like, give them as
    (A) b'day, xmas presents
    (B) your donation to a neighbours drinks party
    (C) wine stalls for a charity or kids school fate
    etc. ;)

Thats €3.19 per bottle. Take out VAT and excise and you are left with 17c in which to produce the juice and package, never mind ship and store. I wouldn't wash my car with juice that cheap as its probably in the grey area for the definition of wine.

Wine is from central valley region and actually good. So there!!

Central valley is a massive, completely spurious denomination that encompasses at least half a dozen actual denominations. Its the equivalent of saying "French wine". Lots of good spots within it, but largely irrelevant as a quality mark.

Depends on what your goal is.
If you want to get smashed cheaply, this is a fantastic bargain.
If you want to impress a lady-friend, then best avoid.

    :pac:

Well any of the wines that Lidl stock from here would be from the good spots I'd think, actually come to think of it I've yet to have bad a lidl bottle from this area and thats speaking from experience, the only bad thing about it is having to buy it in lidl... goddamnit.

I wouldn't drink car shampoo either;)

If it was in Tesco, people would be raving about and legging it up to buy truckloads.
Because it's Lidl there's a quiet shuffle up, hide the car in case any of the neighbours see it
If it's good enough for 17 million Germans, French and other Europeans then it should be good enough for the Paddys!

    Sarcasm much ?

Australian Cabernet Sauvigon - I had a bottle of this last night and it was much nicer than I was expecting.

A bargain at the price and dont let the begrudgers put you off!

I got a bottle of the Australian Chardonnay to try on Thursday,i went down for a box last night,i was very surprised with the decency of the stuff.

I usually steer clear of the lower priced goods and would say i am a fussy wine drinker who tends to buy known branded wines and ends up paying ott for them:mad:.

So if you like the Aussie Chardonnay in general i am sure you will enjoy this one, nice fruity and subtle ;)

I'd have thought there'd be less brand snobbing in these economic times...

    Yeah, right!
Reminds me of friend who had a falling out with the manager of a shoe shop.
From then on, she never had a good word to say about them.
Apparently, none of their shoes were a good fit. I had to remind her that even a stopped clock was sometimes right, even if only twice a day.

In terms of the offer, why not tell people to try a bottle, first. If they don't like it, nothing much lost. If they do like it, they have a bargain. Oh, by the way, Lidl do some very high quality wines from time to time, as indeed do Aldi.

actualy got a bottle today and wasnt so bad... you get what u pay for...and it doesnt cost the earth...helps during the hard times....:)

They used to do a very nice Australian Shiraz up until a few months ago. It was very nice and everyone I gave it to loved it. It was only €5.99.
I say try them and if you don't like them don't buy them again. I've tasted some really rough stuff that people were paying €11.99 for. Everyone has different tastes though.

Do you know how cheap it is to brew wine?
Mine is working out at just less than 50cent a litre and its damn tasty ;)

I bought the Chilean yesterday - sure, it's nothing special, but for something to quaff in the house it does the job grand.

Its not so much brand snobbery- as taste.
Most of the wine I like is really good- but wouldn't be recognised in Ireland by 95% of wine drinkers. Its not expensive either- at less than a fiver a bottle. If you are willing to explore and up to a bit of trial and error- you can discover a few very interesting little gems at prices that wholly hide their provenance. Its nice to see a few Vinho Verdes beginning to appear on our shelves- along with lesser know Reislings etc. We can't all afford Chablis you know.......

Wish they were doing the offer on the californian rose its really good. Had the cab sav last night and whirl i was not expecting top notch twas an easy drink and well flavoured

I thought the Cabernet Sauvignon was- incredibly standard- and without any distinguishing features. Its wine- and drinkable, but boring as hell. I'd rather have a nice whiskey, and I'm a wine drinker.....

The worst thing about red wine for me ,is when it tastes like vinegar.
Is there any oaky taste for the lidl reds at all ?

If it tastes like vinegar- generally its corked (this happens when the wine is badly stored and the cork is alowed to dry out)- or that it wasn't fermented in a sterile environment. What you need to do smell the wine before you taste it. If you get a vinegar smell- send it back.

The NZ Pinot Grigio they have has a sweet oaky taste? Its bit too sweet for my liking- but everyone to themselves.

Have to say I was disappointed with the Chilean red wine. Very acidic and kept repeating on me during the night.

I buy these all the time..theyre lovely. I normally drink Wolf Blass Eaglehawk or the like but these arent bad for the price. Defnitely worth getting if you;re not fussy.

    The special is over.

I got my share, I like it, and that's all that matters to me.
