Three Actors, Three Trilogies Each

An old question came up today in work and we wrecked our heads trying to think of an answer...

Can anyone name three actors that have been in three trilogies each? As in...

actor 1 - three trilogies, nine movies total.

actor 2 - three trilogies, nine movies total.

actor 3 - three trilogies, nine movies total.

    so that's 27 movies total.

It's a tough one so I don't mind if someone comes up with a series of 4 movies instead of a trilogy, as in Die Hard, et.c. Any series with at least three movies will do...

Did this not so long ago in the pub and I cant remember any now, damn..

EDIT: Now that i think about it, we could only get a lot of actors that were in 2 trilogies, Michael J Fox, Hugo Weaving, Mike Myers, and Harrison Ford. I think there were a few more.

Christopher Lee - LOTR, The three musketeers, the four musketeers and return of the musketeers and ... something else that I cant remember.

I do remember being asked this question and someone saying Christopher Lee and those movies with some other ones that I now forget

Edit: The third is the Fu Manchu movies. Thank you IMDB :P

Harrison Ford(Star Wars, Indian Jones) and Matt Damon(Bourne, Oceans) both in two. Thought i had a cheeky third one for Matt Damon cause he was in Dogma and Chasing Amy(playing different characters) but not any other of the connected movies.

[edit] Wait, he also plays himself in Jay and Silent Bob strike back!

A little googling and I found two...

    Tony Todd

    Final Destination Series,
    Candyman Series,
    Black Fox Series,

    And Christopher Lee,

    Fu Manchu 5 times,
The 3 Musketeers, 4 Musketeers and the Return of the Musketeers,
    Lord of the Rings trilogy,

    Harrison Ford is close,
    Star Wars,
    Indiana Jones,
But only two movies in the Jack Ryan Series, Clear & Present Danger and Patriot Games

One more person and I'll be happy enough!

    --Hmm, waay behind you guys.

Harrison ford: Star Wars and Indy Jones
    Ian Mckellen: LOTR and X-men
Hugo Weaving: LOTR and Matrix trilogys
Mike Myers: Shrek and Austin Powers

John Rhys-Davies was in three Lord of the Rings, two Indys, and two Anacondas. So thats another fail then....

Christopher Lee did far more then three Dracula pictures and played Fu Manchu more then three times aswell. And obviously was in the three LOTR movies. Was also in three Star Wars movies if you count The Clone Wars (can't be any worse then the other prequels can it?) Was also set to be in the three Golden Compass films.

Warwick Davis has been in over three Harry Potters, lots of Leprechauns but only 2 Star Wars movies, but was in some of the spin offs if that counts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,330 ✭✭✭niallon

    EDIT: Got that one wrong!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 772 ✭✭✭floydmoon1

There seems to be alot of uncertainty about all of this.

Maybe we should define the question e.g. some rules as in can it be voice-overs.Does it include spin offs.Does it matter if they play a different named charater but in same series. etc. etc.

Well if you rebrand those films as "Tom Clancy" you could throw in Air Force One

Jones is in the Original Star Wars Trilogy too - thats only two trilogies also though

I think this is a trick question that's all about how it is originally phrased. It's an actor who's been in 3 sets of trilogies, but it doesn't say he has to be in all 3 films. If you go for the hard version, you won't find any major actors, but you'll get z-list celebrities and b-movie actors who've done loads of trilogies. And I can't imagine anyone expecting people to know a lot of z-list celebrities. The only one I know (and I think this is because someone pointed it out to me) is Tony Todd has been in 3 Final Destination films, 3 Candyman movies and 3 Black Fox movies.

We know for sure that Christopher Lee & Jackie Chan have done 3 sets of 3+film series, I've still not seen enough evidence of Tony Todd's 'three' Black Fox films...

    Hugo Weaving:

    Elrond in all 3 LotR.
Agent Smith in all the Matrix films (Matrices?)
The voice of Metatron in both Transformers films, and presumably there'll be a 3rd film ..

    And Sean Bean also nearly makes it;

    Boromir in all 3 LotR.
Sharpe in x amount of Sharpe films..
In 2 of the Red Riding trilogy ..

    Eddie Murphy must be close

    Beverly Hill Cop
    Shrek
    Nutty Professor
    Dr Dolittle

Also I would define it as being in a series of movies as the same character - that should eliminate some of the more 3rd rate actors who appear ina lot but as different characters. It might also eliminate Christoper Lee

Well, with Christopher Lee, aren't his Fu Manchu films like his Dracula films in that he plays the character, but the films aren't related? In fairness I haven't seen them all (one was enough) but that was the impression I got.

And aren't there only 2 Lucky stars films for Jackie Chan? And are we counting films that have gone over 3 episodes still as being trilogies? That seems a bit like moving the goal posts.

As for Tony Todd: Black Fox 1, Black Fox 2 and Black Fox 3. But they're all made for TV movies (and they're sh*te so should be discounted for that alone!)

Jackie Chan was in Winners & Sinners (Chinese title translates as 'Five Lucky Stars'), My Lucky Stars ((amazing) Chinese title translates as 'Lucky Stars Superior Shine') & Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Stars (Chinese title translates as 'Summertime Lucky Stars')...

OP, iirc, stated film series (4 & over) were okay...

Ah right, it didn't realise that 5 Lucky Stars was part of that.

    this is a tough one.
Ian McKellan in LOTR and Xmen was the first one that sprung to mind, and Hugo Weaving, for LORT and Xmen.
    Is there an answer?

    And
