fari play for totting it all up, BUT :D

as i say every year, a very flawed ranking system! Limerick deserve to be higher. for example. The games should be weighted more and its a system designed for winning in the later stages.
id give it a different slant. but im not going to have the time to tot it up, but here goes a suggestion. im sure others will have different opinion.

    League -
Division 1 for every win ; 3 points, Draw 1 point. Winners + 10 points, Runners up +5 Points.
Division 2 for every win ; 2 points, Draw 1 point. Winners + 7 points, Runners up + 3 Points.
    Division 3 & 4 for every win ; 2 points. Winners + 5 points, Runners up +2 Points.

    Championship -

    Round 1 Qualifier victory - 5 points.
    Round 2 Qualifier Victory - 8 points.
    Round 3 Qualifier Victory - 12 points.
    Round 4 Qualifier Victory - 15 points.
    1/4 final Victory - 18 points.
    Semi Victory - 22 Points.
    Final Victory - 25 points.
Draw in final - 10 points extra for both teams.

    1st round Province Victory - 3 points
    1/4 final Province Victory - 6 points.
    1/2 Final Province Victory - 10 points.
    Provincal Victory - 15 points.

I might give your one a go homer, been meaning to do one for the hurling anyway.

As for the original table, really not too sure if Wicklow deserve to be as high as 9th tbh.

Only so many hours in the day. I bet Limerick wouldn't be any higher only 2 championship wins and relegated from Division 3. Why give the same points for a division 2 win as a division 4 win, this would give an advantage to div 4 teams as they play an extra game, very flawed. Harsh as it may seem but Limerick only beat Tipp and Clare after all.

dont know, that system heavily favours the qualifers, for example, by the time the AI 1/4 finals are played, kerry will have 10 more points than Cork despite Cork winning Munster and probably were perceived to be the better team at that stage. also 2 points for a Div.2 win and the same amount for a Div.4 win isnt relative to the vast gulf in class between those divisions.

Here's the table using Homer's system. Make of it what you will...

    1. Kerry 129
    2. Cork 89
    3. Meath 64
    4. Tyrone 59
    5. Donegal 47
    6. Kildare 44
    7. Mayo 40
    8. Dublin 39
    9. Wicklow 34
    10. Derry 32
    11. Antrim 30
    12. Galway 29
    13. Sligo 27
    14. Down 25
    15. Limerick 22
    16. Tipperary 20
    16. Roscommon 20
    18. Monaghan 19
    19. Laois 12
    19. Cavan 12
    21. Leitrim 10
    22. Louth 9
    22. Longford 9
    24. Waterford 8
    25. Westmeath 6
    25. Fermanagh 6
    25. Wexford 6
    25. Offaly 6
    25. Clare 6
    25. Carlow 6
    31. London 4
    32. New York 0
    32. Kilkenny 0

Tbh, there's far too many points going for a team on a decent qualifiying run. I think we can all say Donegal were not the 5th best team this year. And we Meath really the best team in the country not to make it to an All-Ireland final?

Also, even though Dublin beat Kildare in the Leinster final and both got knocked out in the QFs of the All-Ireland, Kildare end up 2 places above them. Kildare didn't even get promoted from division 2 this year yet they're 6th in the table, just because they were drawn against Wicklow in the qualifiers. And because of that victory, they gained just as many points as any of the other provincial winners got when they won their respective final.

That in itself shouldn't be the case imo.

The 2 methods seem tough on the likes of Wexford, Fermanagh and Armagh.

The Indo did a piece yesterday:

    Probably not too far away.
