    hi,

I didn't really know where to post this, work&jobs or education as it kind of falls in between.

my mother has bascially been a housewife for the last 30 yrs and has no education behind here ( leaving cert..etc). shes early 50s now. due to personal reasons she needs to get a job and more so for her sanity that she is not sitting at home all day. She isn't the most academic of person, im trying to find out how do i make her employable, where can i send her to look at courses she might be able to do without a leaving cert. She is interested in care work, partly because she had to look after my grand mother for a long time before she passed away and i think she would be good at this. so any advice would be great! I looked at fas but i couldnt see anything that would be suitable for her, are they any schemes for people like her?

    thanks.

    Hi Jon,

Contact your local VEC centre, they'll run courses on a large range on subjects that might be of interest to your mum.

Have a look at this site.

    Best of luck.

thanks for the feedback, ill look into those in the morning. im getting stressed out worrying about her sitting in the house all day. she wants to do something just doesnt know how to go about it, she is computer illiterate and has no computer at home, so telling her to jump on the net isnt an option.
