Peugeot are doing a promotion at the moment with the 308 HDI. offering punters the chance to better the current fuel economy record set recently.
Husband and wife, John and Helen Taylor, have smashed yet another Guinness World Record for best fuel consumption in their Peugeot 308 1.6 litre HDi 110bhp diesel hatchback. Authenticated by Guinness World Records.

The duo circumnavigated the UK in a Peugeot 308 HDi with an amazing average economy of 2.23 litres / 100km (126.8MPG). Travelling over 5954km in 175 hours, they used just 29.1 gallons or 132 litres of diesel. That equates to just over two full fuel tanks at a cost of just €138.34* (2.3 cent per km). *AA Motoring August Average Fuel Prices

The couple, who previously set a world record in 2008 in Australia, when they achieved 1919km from a single tank in their 308 1.6 litre HDi diesel, have set the latest World Record in their standard Nera Black Peugeot 308 SR, loaded with touring luggage.

Surely a 207 or MINI with the same running gear would be more efficent?

If you put that same car in the highest running gear and took your foot off the accelerator it would blow that mpg out of the water(most likely)
    It's just..pointless to do so.

It's based on doing a certain number of miles, rather than just getting the trip computer to give a temorarily amazing reading.

That couple are accomplished hypermilers, and have set previous records too, but in a VW (Bora I think).

I thought the test drive promotion offering 3000 spending spree was only going to look for the most fuel efficient test drive and not trying to beat that guinness record.
I would like to know the details of the test drive promotion

Lets just face it, every Peugeot in the range today is sh1te with absolutely no selling point. Hopefully the 308 RCZ will be a return to form though.

Ah, I thought it was that!

How come nobody congratulated me when I reached 240 and all the rest of the model numbers I've passed?

Just think, only a few posts til you reach 760. Your account may self destruct when you reach 960.

    Hey VolvoMan
Did you know that Ford, Mazda and Volvo all buy the Peugeot HDi diesel engines for their cars? And guess what... the only Volvos selling at the minute are those with the Peugeot HDi engine fitted, how's that for a selling point?

They are just looking for Ireland's most fuel efficient driver, if they happen to beat the WR then all the better!

No engine, no matter how good it is, would redeem Peugeot's current range of cars imo.

I wonder did the turbo ever even Spool up in that 308?

Great achievement alright but whats more commendable than the engine being so economical is the couple's patience and restraint required in driving the car in such a manner to yield those results over such a long period of time... soul destorying!

I actually decided to try this out before in my E90 320d.

I went on a trip from Dublin>Carlow>Dublin and averaged 57.5mpg which I thought was pretty spectacular having just come from an RX-8 :D

I get an average of 58.5mpg in my E46 320d driving from Sligo to Cork. Just stick it in cruise control and the car does the rest. Impressive economy from a car that can go quick if thats what you need too
