Cork Fixture Clash

    From The Irish Times:

"The Cork County Board have refused to reschedule the men’s senior club final between St Finbarr’s and Clonakilty which clashes with Sunday’s TG4 All-Ireland Ladies football final between Cork and Dublin at Croke Park. Both matches are due to start at 4pm.

The board’s executive refused to alter the throw-in time, ensuring anyone interested in viewing both matches will be forced to choose.

The weekend after the men’s football decider is supposed to be left alone to provide the women’s game with a chance to showcase their sport. Cork are undoubtedly the leading brand in the game as they go in search of a fifth consecutive title."

I don't want to wade in and start criticising the Cork County Board without knowing the facts, but it seems a bit non-sensical, and very unfair on the Women's team.

Anyone in Cork able to shed light on why this is happening?

As far as I am aware there was nothing stopping the County Board from refixing the Club final. The ladies final date was well known in advance so I can only presume the Board made the club final on that date in full knowledge of the impending clash, which is basically a real smack in the face to the women who are going for a 5 in a row. IMO an absolute disgrace. The County board have always been a law unto themselves, the recent strikes are a case in point. A bit more respect towards ALL players wearing the Cork jersey would not go astray.

I heard on the radio yesterday a county board spokesperson said that a request was not received to move the county final.

That just typifies the mentality of the board. The board should be proactive in making sure there is no clash.

It also begs the question, of how come the county championship has been able to wrap up so soon after our County team went all the way to the All Ireland Final.

Best of luck to the women this Sunday. I'll be there roaring ye on!!

What is the panic in playing the County final this Sunday? Surely they could have delayed it for a week? The Ladies Football team deserve better, their going for 5 in a row which is a huge acheivement in any sport but the County board still don't recognise this! Best of Luck to the Ladies on Sunday,ye're a credit to the County.

You mean besides the club teams?

Clon, Sars, CIT and the Barrs have been preparing for this date for weeks, re-arranging it will upset their preperation. Moreover, in a county the size of Cork you can't be pushing back fixtures, the CCB has to be stern on these matters or else its chaos.

Really, the one and only thing the CCB gets right is fixtures, and they need to be stern on this matter. In reality, the effects to support going to see the ladies football will be pretty trivial.

See here is people's problem - they are rightly saying its unfair on the Ladies Footballers to hold the county final, but then their solution is to move the two club games, which is just as unfair on the four clubs participating.

Yes it would be unfair on the club teams, but it's an All-Ireland final! Surely it takes precedence over a club one?

Obviously not when its women playing.

Poor form by the Cork County boars.Having had the misfortune of going to pairc ui chaoimh twice this summer, this behavior by them doesnt suprise me.

It wouldnt upset their preparation that much. I have friends playing for the Barrs and Clon on sunday and they dont care if it was this sun or next sun.

Some of the Cork players who were only in an all ireland final last sunday might benefit from an extra weeks rest after the emotional rollercoaster that they have gone through over the last few days/weeks. Michal Shelds had a great game for cork last week and now has to play in a county final this week.
It seems a bit unreasonable from the CCB not to at least put it on next week. But sue when has anyone ever known the CCB to be reasonable?

You're dead right. Its not fair for the Cork County Board to take this stance. Surely they should be proud of the Cork ladies reaching the final and urging all fans to travel to the game, not forcing them to decide.

It's awful that ladies football always has to take a back seat where men's football is concerned.

I seriously doubt management and trainers would agree.

Well, the "upset preparations" argument aside (personally i think that's nonsense, one week isn't going to be make a huge difference), could they not have played it Saturday afternoon? Would that have been such a big deal?

Or even had the throw in at 2, so that people could even watch it on the TV afterwards of they so wished? Ridiculous carry-on.

Surely its far too early for the county final anyway? The All Ireland was just last weekend?

Womens sport just isnt taken seriously. Its something that should be really encouraged by the county board. All credit to the Limerick county board they have cultivated huge support for the Junior ladies for tomorrow. :)

There is only one player from last week All Ireland Final, somehow and it is Micheal Shields from St. Finbarr's

The County board knew at the start of the month that the Ladies were fixed to play their All Ireland final on September 27th so they could have moved the hurling game to Saturday and delayed the Football final to October 4th but instead they pressed ahead with their fixtures plan and ignored the Ladies Football team just like they did with the Camogie team 2 weeks ago. The clubs involved in the games in Pairc Ui Chaoimh are not to blame for this scenario, the Cork County board are totally to blame for this.

+1. Is till can't believe they did it. It's disgraceful. You'd think that as a county they'd want as many people out supporting the girls as they could. Especially when it's for 5 in row, they are on the brink of something amazing, just a piy their county aren't all behind them.

Well done to the Cork ladies on winning today and making it 5 all Irelands in a row,a great acheivement by a dedicated bunch of players. The local radio station in Cork C103 asked the County board to change the starting time of the County final, even by 15 mins so they could cover both the ends of the games but the County board refused point blank! Nothing should surprise me with this County board, there's a bunch of ignorant langers running it! Well done Cork Ladies again,ye showed the men how to do it when under pressure!

They fixed the football final at the same time as the ladies match, no club would mind playing a match a couple of hours earlier as to avoid a direct clash. Congrats to the Ladies, a great year and a fantastic last ten minutes!

Crazy decission by the Cork County Board to go ahead with the County Final yesterday. I dont know how many went to the county final and how many of them would have travelled to Dublin if they had a day free of action in Cork, but they should have been given the option.

Are they good enough to beat is it the nine in a row that Kerry did in the 80's and into 1990.

It was a superb match.Well done to Cork!
Some of those Dublin players could easily get a place on the mens senior team.I was bowled over by the talent.

I reckon at times that even i would get a place in the Dublin Senior Football Team, and i have to use two crutches to get around. Talk about an over rated team. They are lucky they are not playing against Cork, Kerry and some of the Ulster teams for a provincial title. They would be out after the first round.
