A friend has a new house with tv points in the rooms.

To do a diy set-up where are these connected to and what would u need to have to set it up.
    .
The house is west of kells in westmeath.

All the cables would be going to a central location - usually the attic, or sometimes a crawl space if dormer. Less often, though I've seen it happen, the tails are left in a hotpress.

A distribution amp would connect most of them.

As for what aerials are needed for that area, I don't know.

a set up depends on a) no. points b) tv requirements (i,e. terrestrial/satellite/pvrs etc) and c) budget.
I would go for a loftbox/distribution system and you can combine the whole carload onto every point on the system easily.

Alright so there would be a amp box already there . .

Would putting a uhf ariel work well in the Attick ?

You say he's 'west of Kells in Westmeath' so it's a tossup between Cairn Hill in Longford or Mt. Lenister in Wexford, I'd say from looking at the coverage maps that Mt. Lenister looks the better option, tell him to see which direction the locals are pointing their aerials. From Kells Cairn Hill is roughly west and Mt Leinster is south so it should be easy to tell where they're picking up their signals from.

As he's pretty much in the fringe area for either transmitter, the attic probably will not be an option.

Cairn Hill will need a Group B UHF aerial and for Mt. Leinster you need a wideband, this will cover both analog and DTT in both cases.
