    hi.

for obvious reasons i am going anon for this. I have a slight problem when I get nervous. I tend to fart. I know it sounds ridiculous but I've been so self conscious about it I avoid the opposite sex.

I'm so embarassed to talk to my doctor about it. I eat really well and it only happens when I get nervous. I get a real knot in my stomach. I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar problem :S Im not looking for medical advice just want to know i'm not the only one who has a difficult problem like this. Can you get hypnotized for something like this?

    Thanks

    Hi OP,
Its a purely nervous reaction, and a totally normal thing as well, it happens to me as well, and probably to most people. For me its actually worse as I tend to get a bout of fully upset stomach with nerves and need to visit a loo at speed occasionally!!

You can get over the counter remedies for flatulence, they will help to settle things in an emergency. However, you need to work on the cause, not the symptoms, try to build your self confidence so you are less nervous around the opposite sex, if the need is upon you, excuse yourself, move off, break wind, come back, carry on. Try not to let it take over, farting is a normal bodily function and everyone does it. Just try to be discreet and move away if you need to break wind suddenly while youre with people.

Oh - and never be embarrassed to talk to your doctor about ANYTHING, theyve heard it all before, your doctor is someone you should be able to go to and tell anything, they are not there to judge, they are there to sort out medical problems.
