    Don't waste your time.

    Moodle is used to distribute course material, collect assignments etc
    depending on the course. I have rarely seen people "Hang out" there
    for any other reason.

    You would be far better served with the likes of Blogger, Wordpress etc

    Moodle tends to be moderated by your lecturers so unless you want your lecturers seeing your posts I'd avoid doing that.
