    Hi

For job seekers allowance does it look bad if i have money saved up in a account? im unemployed for a year now-been applying for jobs etc but cant find a job. Does the state expect me to give up my life savings before i can get some assistance..

You can have up to 20,000 euro in the bank before it is assessed as means.

    Capital|Weekly means assessed
    First €20,000|Nil
    Next €10,000|€1 per €1,000
    Next €10,000|€2 per €1,000
    Balance (€40,000 +)|€4 per €1,000

they will never ask how much do you have in the bank or a bank statement, unless if someone told them you have enough money to survive. so dont worry about it too much

For jobseeker's allowance, they will always ask for your bank statements/credit union statements etc. As Xiney said you can have up to €20000 before it is assessed as means against your payment.

i just finished my job back in january, and when i went to the dole office, i asked for job seeker's allowance, all they ask me for was my P45 and P21, no more than that, no bank statement or credit union.

purposefully withholding information is fraud. There is a part on the JSA form where you have to declare capital etc.

So i have to be under the 20,000 mark if i can receive the full payment?

You got Job Seeker's Benefit. Job seeker's Allowance which you need when your stamps run out requires means testing. And yes the first 20k is free.

You might have gotten jobseekers benefit?when I was applying for that last yr I did'nt have to give in any statments but when my credits ran out and I was called the means test for JA I had to bring in statments for the bank and credit union.
