Hiya I am starting the Hibernia Online course and am getting a laptop, I'm looking at a Dell for about 500 (inspiron 1545 whcih seems to cover everything I need) only problem is I feel that I might be able to get some extras free, (don't mean to sound cheap or anything) anyway just wondering if in your experience you have found it possible to get stuff knocked off/free anti virus etc from them or are they set prices? I know my boyf got a free television stand when he was buying his t.v last year and Im wondering if the same applies to laptop sellers. I am planning on possibly getting it from pc world.

    Thanks!

why not get the BF to buy it from you.... most places will be willing to drop the price a little....but dont expect miracles.

I wouldn't really but I know sometimes they give you a free game or something, depending on where you would buy it. Looking forward to gettingit but don't want to buy one and then realise I could have got my anti virus for free.

Is there by any chance a free antivirus software you can download please? (I will be a student again so need to save all the money I can! :) )

    AVG do a decent free Anti-Virus: http://free.avg.com/

Also you could get yourself Open office.

No harm in trying anyway, although tbh I reckon you could get more bang for your buck at places other than PCworld.

Try online, misco.ie or elara.ie are two well known online retailers, there are others also.

avg and avast are both free and are both better than norton or mcafee, so dont bother trying to get them free from dell or pcworld and certainly dont buy them

I doubt you're going to be able to haggle with the likes of Dell. But in shops you should be able to haggle somewhat.
