Assuming this is an axd engine, you dont have a timing belt, or for that matter any belts, cam is gear driven and auxillaries are driven by couplings

Don't know about transporters but I've booked my 03 tdi passat with Walsh motors Belfast
    for the following work:
Timing belt and metal water pump
    Oil and filter change
    replace CV (have the part)
    replace faulty temp sensor

msl on the pottery road said it would cost "around" €1750, Walsh motors are doing it for £300

when you get your quote give these guys a call to see if there is much of a difference.

sounds good a mate of mine got his 01 passat's timing belt done and was charged €900. of course when he asked for justification of the bill he was told that there is 5 different types of timing belt kits and of course his was the most expensive and awakard to fit.

anyhow my van has now gone over the 100.000km mark and no light has come on yet so maybe its like crosshair says it might not have a timing belt:D

Which main dealer? Let me know and i'll give them a call to see how much they will charge for the other bits as well.

I also tried a few independant garages and they were coming back with prices from €650 to €800 for the work.

The problem with this is that the parts that are meant to be changed cost MORE than 150???
If he just changes the belt then it's no good.
The car needs the belt, water pump,Tensioning roller, and hydraulic tensioning device. these parts cost over 150 even for oem aftermarket ones.

of course, no one is going to be able to supply and fit a belt and all the bits for €150.

Just got back from these guys, very happy with the whole transaction, the car was ready on time, went through all the work etc. For £300 I'm more that happy!
Booking the wife's scenic in for it's timing belt / service soon enough. It will be interesting to compare the prices, last time we got her car done renault were looking for about €1000, got it done by a local mechanic for €695.

anyway it was well worth the effort, and the missus got her shopping done as well:rolleyes:
