    Hi All,

What should one expect when getting the car serviced?
    Oil change -
    Air filter
    brakes checked
    hand brake checked
    lights?
    spark plugs

    What am I missing?

It depends on both the car and the service. Have a look in the car's service book, it'll tell you what needs to be done and when.

Depending on history & mileage, air filter, spark plugs might not need doing. On modern cars, spark plugs have huge intervals.
There is a ong list of items which should be checked though

Those are just general lists, you need the service recommendations for your make & model of car.

It depends on the type of car, mileage, cos you may need timing belt and rollers which should be replaced approx every 40000 miles.
If only a minor service,, the oil and filter is the most important thing.

    Rollers?

40k miles for a timing belt is too soon unless the car is approaching 5 years old. All these details should be in the car's handbook.

Rollers - presume these are the bearings that the timing belt moves through.

Who told you about this 5 year thing ?? its bull****.

40000 MILES is the average best mileage to change the timing belt and whatever is atached to the belt drive, maybe waterpump is, and rollers/pulleys with bearings, they wear out and can be the cause of the timing belt slipping or breaking and causing a lot of expense.
In a lot of cases, its the other parts which damage the timing belt which causes it to break.

    YES

My Audi Allroad is 80k or 5 years for a timing belt. I thought the 5/6 years was fairly standard for most cars.

It depends on the car. Mine is 5yrs/80k miles too, 5yrs/60k miles is quite common, some cars have shorter recommended intervals. And yes, when LookBehindYou says 'rollers' he/she does mean bearings.;)
