Leaving friends behind

I don't know if this is a personal issue or it's just me being stupid.

Basically I feel really bad that I'm not in contact with my school friends anymore. I've been in college for 3 years now and have a part time job here so I don't travel home very often.

I know it sounds stupid but I sometimes feel like I should make more of an effort to see them, like I owe them something. I've got lots of friends in college who are great but I can't stay in college forever, the likelyhood is that I'll move home after college again. I'll see my old friends again but I can't help but feel out of place with them as they stayed in a group whereas I was the only one that left.

The long and short of it is I by far enjoy the company of the friends I made in college but I'll have to leave them behind too at some point. Is this just the way of the world? Do people go from place to place making new friends every so often?

Reading back on that it's a bit hard to get across what I'm saying so feel free to criticise.

it just happens- people drift apart, grow and change at different paces and sometimes might find each other again in many years to come...

dont feel bad about it.. its likely that they arent sitting at home pining after you- they are busy living their own life.

if you dont feel comfortable around them it could be that you are feelings of guilt are distancing you from them. realise that you dont owe anybody anything. you are not responsible for anyone else's happiness- only your own.

stop worrying about them and focus on letting go of your guilt and move on to enjoy your life while your still young and free

People grow up and become different from what they used to be.

If you have close relationships with those in college, your friendships will stand. You shouldn't feel like you let them down by doing your own thing! It's your life..

It's life. It's easy to drift from school friends as you go to college and mature. People change, it happens.

This happened to me I drifted from my group after school. Then I met up with them a few times after a good few years. I had an ok time with them but they really wouldn't be my type of people anymore. If anything it's from a sense of humour point of view. They are too serious for me and can be bitchy and I've moved on from being bitchy for no reason since I left school.

All in all you should relax and stop worrying about it. You don't need to feel guilty.
