Going away next week with the misses for 4 days. Just wondering which of these would be the best. Basically want some sun but not to be lounging around a pool all day. Interested in doing some interesting stuff which is obviously Rome.

    Opinion's gratefull please?

My parents got back from Rome yesterday, said it was milling rain in Rome on Sunday. You might get lucky though.

Barcelona is still pretty warm I hear, what about there? Alicante will probably be quiet enough at this time of year.

Alicante is lovely, I love it there, but it depends on where abouts you are gonna go to. Torrevieja is very touristy and full of English as is Benidorm. If you are looking for a few days to relax in the sun, have a look in some markets and come back feeling refreshed, deffo go to alicante. There is a tiny little village on the seafront called Santa Pola which is id say 90% Spanish. People do have a bit of english but its not overly touristy. The beach there is gorgeous plus lovely restaurants and a nice market on saturdays and mondays.

Google Alicante and have a look to see what interesting things there are to do there and see what takes your fancy.

well i actually just came back from alicante and my god it was scorching. WAY hotter than 28degress, thats for sure, but we did have some thunder storms and i have never experienced anything like the noise of the thunder. it was crazy loud, plus the maddest fork lightening EVER!!! it doesnt last all day, usually in the evening for a couple of hours and then it clears up again

Both these comments make sense I think.

If you're just looking for relaxation, a nice sunny spot to relax, have a few drinks, go shopping, etc., then Alicante fits the bill perfectly.

If on the other hand you want to see the world's historical and cultural epicentre, 2,000+ years of history on every corner, the best art in the world, amazing churches and public buildings (Sistine Chapel, St Peter's, the Pantheon, etc., etc.), beautiful parks like the Villa Borghese, experience the most wonderful streetlife, romantic gems like Piazza Navona or the Giardino degli Aranci, eat the best food in the world bar none, and come back feeling as if maybe this human race of ours has achieved something after all, then go to the most wonderful city on the planet - Rome. :D

(I do like Alicante by the way, it's just that you've put it up against strong competition!)
