    hey gang

    hope yer all well

    i have a lapierre rcr500.

the bike came with pedals with straps, i have two very narrow misses lately.

Im in germany and using the bike around the city, I never had any problems with the pedals back home, cos i used never have to stop at lights etc.

So i am looking to get dual mode pedals, once side that I can use in teh city and the other side that I can wear cleats with.

I dont know anything about cleats, but are there different types of connections or is it all standardized, or do the connections for the pedals come with the shoes you buy?

Can anyone recommend a good dual mode pedal, I am looking to get high quality for as little money as possible.

    Thanks very much,
    Ed

Guten Morgen meine Schatz. There most certainly are different cleats. SPDs you can get with dual sided pedals. I commute wearing SPDs but I have the pedal loose (which is simple to do) making it easier to get out of. The other bonus about SPDs is that you can get shoes made for walking in, unlike LOOK or similar which if you need to walk into your local Spar can be a bit like ice-skating.
    Viel Spass und bis bald.

Rather than get pedals that allow cleats on one side, and are 'flat' on the other (it means you will have to flick the pedals around when you are at lights at that) you could get pedals like this which are dual-sided but allow you to use normal shoes also. I don't actually have those pedals, so I don't know whether they are any good or not - but I have heard good things about them.

i've used these & find them ideal for commuting with eirther ordinary shoes or cleated shoes. The cleats usually come with the pedals.

+1, I've been using these pedals for a couple of years now and find them great. Heavy and fugly but very practical, good price at chainreations now too.

A smaller, neater alternative if you only plan to use the flat side occasionally is

I've the Shimano A530's and find them great. It's very handy if you want to nip up to the shops without having to change your shoes.

I looked into these a while ago. What are people's experiences with them?

With the A530s, what side usually falls towards the ground? Is it the cleat side, the flat side, or can it be either side depending on what way you took your foot off it?
