Laptop/ Netbook for Masters

    Hey everyone,

Starting a masters in DCU next week and the laptop I have used for the last 3 years is getting a bit slow and full, so I'm hoping to buy a new one soon. I'll be getting a new one given to me by my company in September 2010 so I dont plan on breaking the bank with this one. I don't intend spending more than €250 on it.

I've been taking a look at the Dell mini -10s (would prefer to get a refurb model than a brand new one) and some Asus EeePcs as my friend has one and they seem pretty useful.

There are a few things I'm looking for
-I need Microsoft Office, I use Excel, Word and Powerpoint fairly often and I have to download lots of course work etc that will be in these formats so cant really use any of the freeware available.

-I need about 160gb harddrive, I keep a good amount of music and files on my laptop and use it to keep my iPhone stocked with music.

-I'd like to have a CD drive, for watching films and ripping CDs into Itunes.

-I'd like to have a decent amount of battery life, if it doesnt eat into the cost too much.

Im using a Dell Latitude D520 at the moment, that I bought September 2006 when I started college, if thats of any importance.

Id be completely open to trying new brands or refurbs as long as they work well.

Thanks a million in advance for any advice I can get.

    .

netbooks dont have cd or dvd drives.

the 2006 latitude should be still fine, if you just clean up / clear out the suff that is slowing it down.
if you dont know how to do this you could bring it into a pc doctor/repair type place.
or it might be simpler and a better option to get an external hardrive ( 500gb for maybe 60 euro )and move all your files to that and then reinstall windows - that would speed it up alot.
and maybe get more ram - 20 to 30 euro for 1gb
