    Hi All

I live in Dubai and own a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser. I'm considering moving home and again considering bringing the Toyota home and selling it at home since cars start out very cheap here and VRT wouldn't be payable on import.

Do you think there is much demand for this sort of jeep in Ireland?
How much do you think it's worth with 33000km on the clock?
Any idea how much to tax and insure?

These are the specs off www.toyota.ae although mine also has traction and rear diff lock. It's in good condition in general.

    Thanks

You have 3 major problems/obstacles in bringing that back here.

Firstly it is a petrol, and petrol jeeps have never sold well in this country

Secondly, the VRT exemption carries a restriction on resale where you must pay the VRT if you sell it on again within a certain time frame. Think it is 6 months but it may be 12.

Thirdly, LH drive vehicles are a lot harder to insure/sell in this country.

It is up to you of course but I would be inclined to sell it before I came back unless you are planning to keep it for yourself and it owes you nothing from out there.

Welcome to Boards.ie by the way. ;)

Fair advice except regarding the insurance, Companies are not even allowed to ask if it is left hand drive or not, exact same insurance wise for RHD or LHD

just to confirm what Slidey said, you can't sell it for 12 months after import and it's stated on your new registration document.

I'd love to buy an FJ.... If I could afford it!

Commercialise it and it's only the fuel bills to worry about

thanks for the advice all, had it confirmed from vehicle registration office re 12 month no sale period. so frustrating, will be offloading it here for probably about 17k euro. what a waste!
