    Hi guys
I want to close in my front porch its 8' by 8' approx.
Problem is I have 2 georgian columns at the front and not sure how it will look when finished. I have been looking around to see if i can find one done already but no joy.
Anybody know a house with this done or where i could find pics

    Thanks :)

What do you mean by georgian? Can you link to the exact product if possible (its not a big deal just curious what type you refer to exactly, geogrian is quite broad a term)

As for doing it, i've see nloads of similar designs, and in my opinion, they tend to look tacky almost always and are only suited to houses in LosAngles (as its quite tacky by nature)

    you probably mean Grecian....

you need to prop up the porch, remove the columns and cast support corners in concrete, and in-fill in blockwork.

If there isn't enough space for sufficent blockwork to support the corners, they could also be supported with with box steel within the the cavity of the blockwork wall which would reduce the possibility of water ingress and thermal bridging.

I wouldnt attempt to keep the existing columns.

It sounds like you want to keep the columns. This would look very bad imo. I would take them away and build something more basic.
You will need planning for these works. 2 sq.m. limit on front porch exempt development

as the porch exists as an open porch, water ingress and thermal bridging wont be a factor. Obviously the existing front door should be retained.

Hi guys srry for the delay gettin back on
Yeah i would prefer to keep the columns in place. i can't find any pics of similar columns but they are approx 12" base and 10" top with round shaft between with groves going from top to bottom (narrower at top).
I found two house so far one in longford fully closed and one in louth with half of porch closed.
    I'll try and get pics
    Thanks for suggestions sofar :)
