FPS?

Having had the red ring of death for the 4th time now with my 360, I am now looking at what the PS3 has to offer. Needless to say, I'm very impressed by the look of Killzone 2, Heavy Rain etc so am considering purchasing one.

However, I love the 360 controller for playing FPS and am wondering how exactly the PS3 controller "feels" when it comes to FPS games?

It'll take a while to get used to. I've both consoles and it really depends on which you've been using. Sometimes the PS3 controller feels more responsive then the 360 one, but the 360 one is a lot bigger and heavier, so feels a bit more meaty in your hands (which is good).

In the end, if you buy a PS3 within an hour you'll be used to the controller, whether or not you like it :)

...and welcome to the dark, but shiny, side.

    Solution = Dualshock 3

Cheers for the replies lads! So the Dualshock 3 is a bit meatier than the standard controller then? Might be worth my while picking one up. The more I research whats on PS3 the more I'm tempted to buy it. The Slim is €299 now?

And also, Heavy Rain *drools* :D:D. Loved Fahrenheit, and didn't even realise this title was on the way!! Looks unreal.

It's still a small fiddly piece of **** with crappy triggers though.

Agreed. Much prefer the Xbox controller for shooters.

Ah, I am the same, always preferred the 360 controller for FPS. Killzone 2 took a good few hours to get used to, but what a great game, definitely worth it.

Although not an FPS, Resident Evil 5 looks promising, though I've only seen some reviews.

I've got both and for preference I'd use the 360 on FPS's and most other things I'd use the PS3's controller.

One simple thing I will advise is to get these clip ons for the triggers

You can pick them up for €2 in Smyths (got mine in the one on Jervis street, Dublin)

They make a HUGE difference. Rightly so, the 360 controller has triggers that curve out, so you can rest your fingers on them, but for some odd reason the PS3 controller curved the triggers in. For aesthetics I can understand this, but for ergonomics it doesn't make sense.

Before people say they aren't needed, I dare anyone to use them for a week then go back to gaming without them. Whenever I have friends over it's the first difference they notice and they'll usually go out and buy them that day.

Yeah those clips really do make it much better when playing FPS games. I managed to get mine free from magazines and now have two sets for both my dualshocks, that way when the battery needs recharging I just switch controllers without having to unclip them, much easier to have one I made earlier waiting.

The greatest advantage of the clips is that your fingers don't slip off the triggers like mine used to when playing an extended session. Very handy when it comes to online slugfests on COD4, RSV2 or Killzone2

Cheers for mentioning those they look a great help. Must definitely pick up a set.

Must definitely get those trigger stick ons.

Got a PS3 last month and burned through Resistance 1 and 2. Using both triggers on one side (as you have to in resistance) is a pain in the ass.

    Still, resistance is savage :)

I use the trigger clip ons myself. They make a big difference alright.
