Solberg joins Citroen's Junior squad for Rally GB
    wrc.com wrote:
Petter Solberg could end up playing a crucial role in deciding this year's FIA World Championship titles after being signed by the Citroen Junior Team for the last round of the season, Rally GB.

Three weeks ago the 2003 World Champion announced he had secured a Citroen C4 for the final two WRC rounds in Spain and GB and would be running it under his own Petter Solberg World Rally Team banner.

Late last week, however, Petter accepted a subsequent invitation from Citroen to 'upgrade' his privateer entry for Rally GB to one with the Citroen Junior Team. Solberg and Junior team regular Sebastien Ogier have since been nominated as the team's two drivers eligible to score manufacturers' championship points in Wales.

Solberg's signing comes at a critical time in the season, with both the drivers' and manufacturers' titles undecided and just two rallies remaining. So far this season Solberg's privateer status has meant he has been eligible only to score driver points, but as an official entry in GB the Norwegian will take points in both contests.

Solberg is a four time winner of Rally GB, and at the wheel of a semi-works team Citroen C4 he is aiming to notch up his fifth this October.

"Now I will definitely be fighting for victory in GB," Petter told wrc.com today. "Citroen spoke to me last week and offered to help with my entry costs, and that's how it happened. I'm driving for the Junior team but hey, I'm only 34 and a lot of people say I look 29, so that feels okay to me," he joked.

Solberg acknowledged that his decision to represent Citroen might be an unwelcome development for the rival Ford team - who he is still talking to about opportunities next year - but he tried to distance himself from the strategic implications.

"I will be driving my own rally and I'm going to be pushing like hell to win it," he said. "If I do well maybe it could be bad for Ford, I don't know, but I have to take this chance to prove what I can do. Driving for Citroen in GB doesn't mean I've chosen them over Ford for next year. Nothing is decided yet and anything is possible.

"I didn't even have as much time as I wanted when I was choosing the C4 or Focus for Spain or GB, so there's a lot to be done before I know what's happening in 2010," he added.

He could be in with a real chance of winning in GB with the works C4. I hope it does not rule out any possible involvement with Ford in the further though.

citroen pulling out the stops plus the fact Rautenbach has been exilled from the junior team he now more or less been ran out of PH Sport and the fact that nokiov is a pure wrecking session it makes sence that Solberg has been drafted in
