I think that's supposed to be a pretty rough engine - even for a diesel. Not as much power as you'd hope for from a 2.2.

I know someone with that engine in an 02 9-3.

Rough is the word. Not light on juice, either. He only gets low 30's - mind you, it's an import, so lord knows what sort of life it had before it got here........

The 1.9's are much better, and, cheaper to tax, too.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

yea ive heard sum mixed reactions to it, i dont mind paying the extra tax for an extra bit of bhp but from what im hearing is they are only 115bhp, sure i can get that from a 1.9, why would i wana pay for the extra tax, i think im not going to go with this car, cheers for the advise

That's an old GM unit, there are many better diesel engines out there.

Had this engine in a 03 vectra. It rough compared to modern common rail diesels but nice and torquey. I was getting about 35 - 40 mpg so its not that great on fuel. Its also fairly noisy and fairly dirty i.e lots of black smoke on acceleration. It suffers from 2 main faults i.e split fuel return pipes which results in very poor starting and also stuttering on full acceleration in top gear. Both are well known faults and easily fixed. There was a recent recall on the latter problem in with new firmware on the ecu to cut turbo boost on hard acceleration in top. Its an o.k engine but very old school. Its 125bhp

I quite like SAABs, I just wouldn't get that one. The 95 is a very comfy car and you might get a better one for your money than a 93.

The petrol ones aren't bad at all, and the 1.9 diesel one has the excellent FIAT engine.

What's your mileage like, and what are your criteria? You might get some good suggestions if you can flesh it out a bit.
