I have this both on my laptop and desktop.

I dropped my laptop at the weekend

The screen is broken (ink blotch). DVD is ****ed (wont go back into slot). Chassis is scrapped, chipped and a few chunks missing.

My understanding was Dell would come out collect the laptop fix whats broken and see go from there.

I rang Dell. Went through the usual customer service crap. Was told that a box would be dropped off. I put the laptop in the box and someone collects it.

I’ve now been told that I have to take pictures of the laptop. Someone will assess the damage based on that and an engineer will come out on site and fix it. Is that how its done.

I would have thought it would have made more sense to collect it. Assess it and fix it? It’s a 2 year old laptop so I don’t see them having these parts off the shelf

I just checked my warranty status

Seeing as you have NBD the engineer calls to you directly and fixes it then and there without having to be without a machine if you had the basic collect and return warranty.
They are just looking for a list of damaged parts / items which is fair enough.
They will still have plenty of parts for a two year old laptop dont worry. My old XPS M170 was pushing 4 years and they still had every part that managed to break in that one.
I'd say just ask them to replace the entire chassis of the laptop, the screen and surrounding bezel and the DVD drive itself. If they continue to push then start taking photos..

Ah I confused NBD with that they would call and collect rather than call and fix it

Just noticed the Complete Care cover you have and your NBD warranty are due to expire in 139 days. I would see how much they will charge to extend out the warranty to the maximum 5 year limit. Seeing as your first three years are nearly up it might be worth while in case anything else gets damaged in the unit.
People thought I was mad extending the warranty on mine, its paid for itself several times over, in the end to the tune of a new replacement laptop when problems persisted with my old one.
