Creating a DVD

    I bought a DVD recorder as I thought it would be the easiest way to record a few bits of my Sky Plus box to give out to some friends of mine. Basically I have two matches recorderd on it that a few friends of want.

    I made the DVD this weekend and then made copies of it on my laptop. The copies work fine on my laptop, the DVD Recorder and and old stand alone DVD player we have. However, I took one up to my father in laws house last night and it wouldn't work on his DVD player.

    The player is working fine as I tried a few other standard DVDs on it and they were all grand.


    Is there a definative way to write/create DVDs that will be readable from all Standard DVD players ?

    I work in IT but I don't know anything about DVDs.
    I suppose I never had to before.

    If it makkes any difference, I

    used a blank "DVD+R" to record the first copy with the DVD recorder and then copied with my laptop onto a "DVD-R". Would it have mad eany difference if I used a +R again ?

    In DVD burning applications, e.g. Nero, there's an option to set the booktype to DVD-ROM. What this means is that DVDs burned with this option enabled will be more compatible with standard DVD players.

    As such, I recommend you attempt to enable this option in your burning software, if available, make another copy of your DVD and test it on your father-in-law's DVD player.
