Flying home from East Coast of US next month have a 6hour stop over in Chicago. Anyone know if you are allowed leave the airport during stop overs? Dont want the hassle of colletcing all bags.

Assuming your bags are through-checked back to Ireland and you won't need to collect them you'll be fine. You can wander in and out as much as you like provided you haven't gone through security. You can leave when you've cleared security but you'll have to go through security all over again when you go back in.

If you have to collect bags just go straight to the check-in desks for your flight home, they'll often allow you to check in luggage 4/5 hours before hand.
