If any of you are visitors to the River apartments, you may have noticed a sign up in Foyle, offering free tea.

This apartment has been a drop-in for the friendless or the friendly, or those in need of a smile! (Note: no one gets in without Jack being there)

We branched out to offer a place of sanctuary and comfort and a cup of tea with a few free biscuits... Thw window was tastefully decorated with a small number of bottles (of course we didn't drink them... they were... donated?)

But now, the man has spoken... Jack has been issued with a request to remove the bottles. That was not a major problem and was gonig to be adhered to... but now... the sign has to be taken down!

Where can we go for a free cup of tea??? Where can we meet new friends in the comfort of an apartment??? Where will be be without our shining beacon of light beckoning us to meet new friends!

Will you stand by us and support our cause to join fellow-tea drinkers in support all over the entire campus! Voice your outrage here!

    ONE IS NOT AMUSED!

    :D:D:D:D:D

They used to give out free tea/coffee in the Arts block every Wednesday morning between 10:45 and 11:15 last year, which was class seeing as it was one of the few mornings I was actually in at that time!

They run that place like a liberal prison.

They treat the students like vermon in there.

I guess it depends who's in charge that particular year but it was definitely the worst experience of my life in first year living there. They really are pretentious considering that they are just a building management company really.

Put your sign back up and tell them to go **** themselves man, they have no power anyway, their just full of bluff. And get some friends and move into a house outside the prison walls.

And remember, they are just people that you are paying to maintain the property. They have no authority over you, they are not your boss ,you are their boss. They don't have the right to reprimand you or tell you what to do. They feel they can though because in their heads, they are very important and you're are just a stupid first year who is very immature and dosen't have the wealth of experience and wisdom that they've picked up over the years.

P.S. I believe what you're doing is very cool and in fact the student residence should supply you with the biscuits and tea for creating a sociable environment and making first years feel welcome and comfortable and creating a sense of community on campus.

They are such a pack of clowns though.Their first instinct is to always treat you with contempt.

Well thats the chip firmly off my shoulder anyway.

    +1.

Go you, thats really cool on your part. College is a little less big and scary I'd say if your neighbours were known as the "free tea people"

These people never cease to annoy me. What about the huge signs and paint which cover half of the windows on campus from a month before the elections until the end of the year without being made to be taken down?!

i've kinda gotten back at them by plastering the window with posters advertising the charity fundraiser I'm having in Gorey this weekend!

The same thing happened us in Hurley when we had a sign saying *Good night out? A little bit to drunk to walk? Free lifts home, In our shopping trolly* so I know exactly how outraged you feel!

But in fairness to the *Man* he had a point that 1. the trolley was robbed. 2. this is a pretty unsafe method of transportation for the drunk (aldoh very effective) and 3. Horribly embarrassing for the patron. (We never heard a complaint from the said patron at the time.

I saw those signs and quite frankly you're being a bit economical with the truth: the one about the casual sex etc wasn't in very good taste. Still, I suppose there's nothing too wrong with the tea & meeting people aspect although I must say that if it was my place, I wouldn't be impressed with my roommate inviting all and sundry in. The other housemates must be very tolerant to agree to this or did you ask them at all?

The one about casual sex wasn't actually us, it was taken down when we noticed it! The housemates were all agreed to it, and they invited friends and other people in for tea too. The only difference was that we were providing the tea for their friends. They all liked the idea actually

€1.85 for a cuppa tea and €2.50 for coffee in the ARTS block is a disgrace . A feckin tea bag and hot water costs feck all - they are exploiting us
