I am interested in Graphic Design and would love if people would recommend some seminal texts on the subject.

What were you recommended in college for typography, layouts, logos, etc?

I've been thinking about your search for a graphics class and think that the time spent travelling there could be better used by setting up a personal course of study.

Your interest in architecture might encourage you to look at the book trade, as photos of buildings are increasingly being used in book cover design.

I picked up a very informative and interesting book on typography recently.

There is a set of lectures on graphic design history. I had a quick look and they seem OK. Don't know if they're that great but maybe worth a look for the non-graphic designer
