I saw a clip for this show tomorrow.
Some lunatic is going to run a marathon in the antartic in just a pair of shorts with no training.
He says he can control his mind to block out the cold and pain...
oh he is in his 60's.

What a pointless thing to do. What did he prove?? That he's a plonker.

Well now, theres a lot of non athletic/ non runners who would say that putting your body through 26.2 miles of agony is pretty pointless and not necessary. Its just something he wants to do. Rather him than me though!

    No. It was utter crap.

All my friends who are non runners think my marathons were "mad" to do. I have heard negative comments from short to middle distance runners about marathon runners and also marathon runner's negative comments about ultra runners !! It would appear to be a natural human response
I watched it anyhow out of curiosity, it was ok !

I agree with CaoimheX. It was an example of the power of the mind to control the response of the body. It was interesting because of that. The fact that this strength of will made him appear to be difficult to live with was disconcerting.

I suppose Picasso was no bed of roses either though.

So your comparing Picasso with some tool who does stupid stunts for no other reason than self publicity.
This was nothing other than car crash TV. Would'nt be surprised if he quit with frost bite after a couple of miles, the footage of him running the 26mls seemed very short.

I agree with this bit. didnt find it great to watch but it shows what can be done with sheer determination and not being soft.

when will enough be enough for someone like him? till he dies and leaves behind a kid with no father?

Only in terms of how a strong determination can obscure other elements of a balanced life.

C'mere, I think if you look inside your soul you'll see that everyone has a bit of it (but not to the extent of yer man).
