UPC router aka asstastic 10000 v2.bollocks - DNS server not saving

    Hi everyone,

quick question - i'm trying several times to set the CISCO POS EPC 2425 - to use opendns on the router.

Everytime I update the settings and hit 'apply' the router immediately reboots and the old settings are there when I go back and check.

I am probably doing some stupid - but if anyone has had the same issue and resolved would be very keen to hear, cheers

[edit] for more informative subject line rather than rant.

Bump - has anyone who has this router been able to successfully change DNS settings? Would anyone mind running an experiment and checking for me?

And as the rapidly developing flamewar in the other thread alludes to, I have attempted to call UPC but have had my credit run out before call was answered (20+ minutes). So would rather ask the crowd what they know before calling back again.

Finally - would be interested in recommendations of any alternative routers.

you should be able to change the DNS settings on it, not sure what th e problem is there. have you tried plugging it out for a couple of minutes and then trying again to see if that makes any difference?

if you only have 1 or 2 PC's you can just change the DNS locally on them in the TCP/IP section of your network connection properties on your PC (am assuming it's a windows PC) and that will override the DNS settings on the router anyway.

    hi vibe666,

thanks for the reply, and have tried those things (turning off). I suspect much like the advanced tab (which someone posted a user/pass for here the other day - which if dont have this modem is actually not accessible to the user) the options do not appear to save. The advanced tab stuff you cant even view if you log-in.

re: individual pc's - yeah i've done that for a few, but have multiple, several of which are dual boots - its a major pita, esp for laptops as I only want to use opendns here. router clearly the best option, but it just looks like it is ridiculously locked down.

any recommendations on an alternate cable modem? got plenty of wireless routers so dont necessarily care about the modem also being a wireless router.
