Advice on 2006 2.0 Petrol Passat

I am thinking of buying an 06 VW Passat. It's a 2.0 FSI Petrol 150bhp. It's the highline model and has all the extras with leather interior anf chrome pack etc. The garage is looking for €10,500 but I should be able to get another few hundred knocked off that I think.

Has anyone got one of these? Whats the fuel economy like? I would like to get the 2.0TDI 140bhp one either but these are a good bit more expensive and usually have very high mileage on them.

Is there anything in particular I should look out for when buying one of these? The bonnet has a few chips on it, just seems like chips hitting off it an marking the paint. I'm not much of a car person so don't know much about them.

The 2.0 litre petrol model is a rare sight on these shores, most sold here are the diesel models. As long as you know that you will be married to the car, it would be almost sale proof afterwards in this country so haggle hard on the price.

The most common problem on that Passat is the electronic handbrake which is known to have a mind of it's own. My uncle's old 2006 Passat needed a software upgrade to fix the problem.

Well, thats the thing, I would probably keep it for 2 years, I would probably rather get a 140bhp diesel as it's really nice to drive also. But they are all huge mileage and pretty expensive. I'm just wondering would I be better off saving €3k now and going for petrol and just trading it in in 2 years time for a newer car then

you'll more than likely lose more than the 3k price difference plus have increased running costs. Might be better off trying to do source a diesel model

Also OP, only go for the that 2.0FSi if you actually want a petrol car with a bit of poke. If you're only going for it for the sake of it, go for a diesel passat. It'll be easier to sell afterwards and be a lot more economical. The 2.0FSi is a very nice engine, very smooth indeed but the fuel economy wont be great. Does sounds like a nice car though, being highline spec and all. Good thing it is, because a 2.0FSi in base spec really would be sale-proof!

I have one, is a lovely car, never had a problem. Where are you getting one for that price? Seems very low low to me, even in today's market. Can't see any at that price on carzone, cbg etc.. just one at 10,950 but that has huge mileage (for a three year old car). If your confident its all legit then sounds like a great deal to me.

If you are only keeping the car for two years then I would not advise buying a 2.0 litre petrol Passat, there is little or no demand for a car like that in Ireland.

Did you look at importing a TDi from the UK?

    Something like this:
    http://www.autoquake.com/used-volkswagen-passat/2.0-se-tdi-4dr-diesel-manual/inspid=15973

By my calculations it works out at around €11k including VRT.

The one you seen for €10,950 is probably it, he said he would let it go for €10,500. I would rather get a diesel to be honest but the price of them is considerably more. I will have more of a look for a diesel now I think, as everyone seems to be advicing me for it and to be fair you have your car for sale now for quite some time so I guess the selling part is true for sure.

Your car is very nice and in good shape. If you are interested in letting it go for a bit cheaper let me know. I would be interested in having a chat with you about it anyway.

So after a few weeks of looking at lots of cars I finally picked up one from Northern Ireland. I got a 2007 2.0TDI 140bhp Highline model with alot of extras. The car is in mint condition and has 35k genuine miles on it with VW service history, car was originally owned by VW so was really happy about that.

Drove her from Eniskillen to Dublin yesterday and was very happy with the drive and all the comforts of the car. Thanks for the advice and I'm pretty happy with the car in my limited time so far.
