Getting rid of midges

my room is infested with midges, it's extremely hot here so I have to leave windows open or else I bake alive. This also means the midgets come in and feed off me at night like little vampires. They seem to have set up a little colony in my room and are too numerous to squash them all.

Anyone know a way to get rid of them?

    Bug spray or a hoover.

I'm fairly impoverished. Are there any budget options?

Cover the open window with net curtain or something that will let in air but not bugs and then go on a killing/capturing spree on the bugs still in the room.

    Homemade flame thrower

Yeah, I'm using a curtain but the bugs are absolutely everywhere and way too fast for me to kill.

Anyone know if Citronella/lavender work? Have heard rumours that they repel midges.

A simple home-made trap perhaps....... Midge trap
