3 Wireless Broadband SIM only Purchase and iPhone Tethering

I will be returning to holiday in Ireland soon with my unlocked 3G iPhone and I want to use Wireless Broadband on my iPhone tethered to my Laptop to give me internet access cheaply while I am there for 1 month.

I see that 3 offer a €25 for 30 days option which would suit me just fine so is it possible to just get the SIM card for free and then just pay the €25 and use it as described above?

I would need to be able to walk into a 3 Store and do this and do not want to buy a USB Wireless Modem which seems to be the only way on their website that you can order this service!

Also does anyone know if there are any restrictions on using the 3 Data tethered to a PC on the iPhone?

Hi,i've been with three 3g "so called" 7,5 Mb broadband for 3 months on prepay basis.Note :if you use the sim directly in your phone(and not with the Stick Modem) you von't get HSDPA speed only GPRS (what is actually a crap).I just would like to recommend :Stay away from Three 3G Mobile broadband!!

ignore the post above it is incorrect. If the phone used is 3g/HSDPA then you will connect to that. what you will not get is GPRS as 3 do not have this type of network.

Hi, I have been using 3 mobile broadband via my mobile phone for a number of months. I only need the 1GB add-on as it is not my main broadband source.

You can use the sim in either a phone or USB dongle and connection speed will depend on the modem speed and the 3 network area you are in.

I have used my N95 connected to my PC and could get rates up to 2mbs, but that would be rare, 3's broadband network is over subscribed and virtually unusable during peak times.

Yes, I'd also recommend 1GB option as it's only EUR 9.99. If it's enough for you for a month, of course. It's not advertised for the computer users, rather for the mobile phone usage. But it's working great, at least, in certain places, e.g., Dublin City Centre. For me there was just one lapse last month, when it was raining outside. Couldn't go online for about three hours. All other times during work hours it was as below.

Forgot to say that you can by any 3 SIM, they're all 3G enabled. Just get a SIM as if for voice calls, don't even mention it's for the Internet. The only catch could be when you need to activate it as they may ask either for a proof of age or Credit Card.

3say sims are already active when you purchase them

What I said is that you need to activate it for the Internet and I think the consensus is that's still the case :)
