When I lock the steering wheel fully to the right and accelerate at the same time I hear some type of a rubbing noise, It sounds like parts of steering mechanism rubbing together or parts of steering mechanism interfering with parts of the engine. You do not hear it if you ease off the accelerator.

Anybody know what it could be? The car has recently passed the NCT. It is a VW Passat!

Could well be a CV joint on its way out.

Lift the bonnet, get someone to rev the engine while turning the steering wheel, while the car is stationary, in neutral, handbrake on etc. and listen for the noise. See if its present when the car isnt moving, and if so, you can discount a number of things, leaving just the power steering pump, alternator, belts etc to investigate. Otherwise its a case of vice versa, if you get my meaning.

Could be something as simple as the mudflap/wheel arch rubbing of the tire when it is turned, worth a quick check!

I had a similiar problem on a fiesta before. Got all the steering done up and it stopped the problem. I can't remember what it was exalty but I think it was bushing wore or something. :o
