    Austin 1800 or Maxi.
    Either would do.

MGB hardtop. Poxy looking yokes IMO.

Also, agree with the poster who mentioned the 924. It's just not a proper porsche with that engine. Cheapens the brand

Any Porsche or BMW. Can't stand them at all.

Ditto. They just remind me of Ireland in the 70's/80's - will never be "classic" for me in the sense of having something special.
    Different strokes etc. though!

We are back to the "definition of a classic" paradox again!

Anything that has lasted 30 years deserves not to be blown up IMO. I know some people have a narrower definition of classic than me, but there you go.

If I REALLY had to blow something up it would be made by the Rootes group, a Talbot or something maybe.

It would have to some of the rubbish (In my opinion of course:rolleyes: ) thrown together in Britain in the 60's, 70's and 80's. When I think of the following, all that comes to mind is unreliability, dull, unimaginative styling (for the most part), and water leaking in from outside.

Austin Maxi, Allegro and 1800, Morris Ital and Marina, Triumph TR7, Triumph Acclaim, those Austin/Morris/Wolsely Farinas, but I would reserve most of my bile for the Morris Minor and the MGB. I find it difficult to express how much I dislike this pair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,227 ✭✭✭Thinkingaboutit

    Grrr, not the TR7/8.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

    Triumph Acclaim,

The Acclaim was actually a Honda though.

OK, then I should've added that generation of Honda Accord to the list :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

    Honda Ballade actually. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,202 ✭✭✭Bitten & Hisses

I stand corrected! I could've sworn the Mk1 Honda Accord was the same car.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

They all did look similar indeed. The Ballade was really a Civic with a boot:

    HONDA_BALLADE.JPG

I happen to quite like it. :)

Most of the BL tat from the 70's, 80's.
But top of my hate list are the Montego, Maestro and Metro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Is there a Maestro left in the country?A neighbour had a ****ZX regd one in the 90s,and i know where theres a scrap one,but i havnt seen one on the road in years.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 94 ✭✭aravan

I like this but there are two that i'd need to do.
Morris Marina and a Chrysler Alpine.

Havent seen one of those in a long time, surely a car that is extinct now? That one hasnt hit the road since 97..and its well past it now, wouldnt take much to blow it up!

That was a solid, ordinary, perfectly reliable saloon. One of them on a original Irish plate would rank far higher in my estimation than some stupid 'ZV' Porche.

One mans junk is another mans dream. The thoughts of blowing up a Metro or Allegro ( Horid as they might be ) is just criminal to me. I know this thread is just a bit of fun but its like thinking about your own dog being run over :pac: Infact I'll go as far as saying I'd love to see an old Talbot Alpine turn up at a show, when was the last time we saw one of them ! There's a fair bit of modern stuff I'd love to blow up though

There is an 88/89 C Maestro in a garage forecourt in Adare, Co Limerick. It may be for sale....:)

+1 gullwings are nice but everything else is just a 3 box saloon ...yawn.
Do Mercedes have a design department? Great cars well engineered dependable etc, but boring which puts them in the same category as modern euroboxes for me.

Except of course the 123 estate - the chrome, the loose steering and of course the boat like ride in my view are things to get excited about.

    Well the chrome is anyway...

OK yeah , the estates do have a certain charm to them.
There's a nice lime green (well that particularly 70s dull lime green kinda colour) one around sandymount that I quite like. It's the chrome roof rails that make it. But the saloons leave me cold. Nothing personal just my personal taste. That and I have a bit of a thing against "status" cars.

The classics that I'd like to blow up (and I'll probably get blown up for this myself) are all the T1 and T2 VW vans that have been "slammed" ...like so

    244137.jpg

    That ain't cool ...just stooopid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Yes..agreed..what in gods name is with narrowed beams like that, dropped bugs with massive camber on the rear wheels and hugely narrowed beams on the front just look like they are broken or something.
