Most computer shops should have a universal charger that will work with pretty much any laptop. Seeing as you are in dublin you shouldn't be too far away from one/

In Currys/PC World you can get universal chargers. The lowest price is €79.99 and they charge USB devices too

Avoid harvey norman who wanted 140euro for it.. I hit the roof.. Check out ebay but make sure it'll fit. (correct specs)

If your getting a Universal charger get one from somewhere you can take it back to if it goes wrong and keep the receipt as I've seen a far few of the Universal ones die after very little use. The ones with a little voltage selector switch have been some of the worst.

Very good advice. I've seen a lot of them go tits up in less than a year. Even some very expensive ones. To stop you losing the receipt sellotape it to the charger itself or ever scan a copy onto your pc.

What is very strange the model that seems to be very poor is a great big yoke thats supposed to push 90W yet has lasted only a couple of months on PC's that take a 65W PSU as strandard. Death thows on that one are often reported to be a funny noise and a smell of burning then the charger works no more.

I have seen one person replace one twice in the last 6 months - really does pays to keep the receipt.

Edit> I'd name the brand but that seems a little unfair as the same good looking well specced but otherwise crappy Universal PSU is sold under several well know brand names and I can only rember one of them, I really can't Trust my memory.

Be very careful on eBay, many of the PSU's for laptops are Chinese rip offs this link has been given here before as an example of how bad it can get so be warned and thanks to whoever originally posted it.

Thats not to say you won't get a genuine OEM PSU off eBay but you do need to be careful and check the seller has good feedback for selling PSU's and the the listing is for a genuine looking OEM PSU.

SEE here http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=220918 around 47 euro in maplins irish shops.MAKE sure to set polarity correctly eg is
+ inside the circle or - negative inside the circle .CHECK the ampage rating eg 15volt 1.5amp .HOLD ONTO RECEIPT .Make sure it has correct amp/voltage rating 4 your laptop.WRONG polarity setting will DAMAGE your laptop.

Same situation, I did the treacherous thing and went to Newry to get mine, cost E56 when I did it. When I got back home I found I didn't have the right size connector, but I got it for 3.40 from Maplin down here.

Not bad, E59 to get it done!

Important edit: I used a voltmeter to make sure I connected the thing up properly. I'm going to make a notch or mark on the connector to make sure that I don't reconnect the wrong way round!

Only seen a couple of them go wrong, they seem to last OK unless you leave them plugged in all the time.

    Tape it on?

    59euro more than I'd pay ;)

If I need an HP PSU I'd check out ones like this one on eBay if you check the seller is also selling a load of HP spare parts so its a fair bet the PSU is genuine if second hand but at 15.50euro inc P&P its worth the chance.
