I was cleaning up my desktop last week, putting loads of files into trash. Mainly songs. Today i emptied the trash not knowing it actually gets rid of these songs from itunes. Anyone know if i can get these songs back? Its about half my library! :(

Just a guess but maybe you will need one of the hard disk file recovery programs. I am assuming that Emptying trash just frees up that part of the disk to be used again.

I've never managed to recover anything from a drive that's been deleted. good luck. if you find a way I'd love to know. Unix by default immediately writes over any deleted data. there are programs that claim recovery. but they usually need to installed before you have deleted. meaning they are never really deleted in the first place...

Recovery is possible depending on whether the drive space has been overwritten or not. Also it will involve spending some money.

    Data Rescue II

You can download the trial version of the software and it will do a scan to see what deleted files can be recovered. You need a license in order to recover the files which costs $99.

There may be cheaper solutions, but that is the product I have experience of - do an internet search for "Mac data recovery".

most likely a stupid question but have you done a back up in the recent past or ever? at least you could pull some of the songs from that... pain but with music -back up back back up... the funny thing is I now have better copies of my music on my mac than I have in my cd collection... pre ipod cd carry bags did a lot of damage
too damn expensive and time consuming to lose.... :(
