Usually it takes between two and four weeks to process, (in Dublin). I recommend you go to your local Hse and speak to a community welfare official. They will sub you your payments, in the post office, while you are waiting for it to come through. You'll need to bring the usual documentation. Ie. Passport, Bank statement, Proof of Address, rent book.

    Hope this helps.

Wondering the exact same thing, gave my confirmation letter of registration into social welfare office nearly two weeks ago and yet to hear anything back from them. Still collecting the dole though too, is that ok or will it delay things?

Well I went into the social today to hand in the confirmation of registration letter and I was told I didn't have to sign on ( which is tomorrow), and that I should go to the post office as per usual.

I can't really leave the course tomorrow, seeing as I'm busy but I need the money.

I'll almost bet that I have to sign though!! Anyways I'll find out for certain tomorrow.

It's a bit of a grey area. Technically you are not supposed to be collecting any jobseeker's allowance/benefit if you are attending college. So they are well within their rights to make you pay back any JA/JB you receive while you are at college*. However they must realise that you have started college as they have your BTEA forms. So you could argue that the onus is really on them to stop your payment - although god only knows if this argument would stand up. Probably not.

For anyone who has had their payment cut, and is waiting for the BTEA. I would recommend that you visit the Hse as soon as possible. They will pay you your usual amount until the BTEA goes through.

*Plenty of cases where this happens at the end of the year and people have ended up with a big dirty 10 grand debt.

I have applied for BTEA and got my confirmation letter back during the summer. I submitted my proof of registration last week and was told that they were hoping to have the BTEA claims transferred over to bank payments this week. I was told to go to post office last week to collect my JSB. As far as I can see you keep collecting your jobseekers until they transfer it over to BTEA so going to wait until thursday to see if I get payment into bank otherwise Ill go to post office.

I'm going through the most frustrating office in Ireland, they are so useless it's not funny:

Basically I've been unemployed from Sept last year and in in March got a part time job and was on casual work until about 2 weeks ago

I applied for BTEA back in like may or something, got acceptance letter on Sept 1st and said when registered to send in confirmation of registering-fair enough. Went in on Monday when I had a break from College to see if they pay for registration fees.

I'm told I was 'Benexed' or Benefit exhausted from 2 weeks ago as I was on JB, and I needed to apply for JA before I could get BTEA.

Fine-wasted another hour and a half today when I had a break from College, went to new claims with a JA application, I'm told I need to go to maintenance (who try to just get rid of me and was asking for a p45) she got someboday else to come back to me and I was then told I shouldn't of been sent out BTEA as it was a bit premature as my 312 days only ran out there 2 weeks ago and need to fill out 3 forms, JA, JA means test and a repeat claim form.

Like ffs what is this all about?? I'm told I do qualify but why the hell have I to apply for JA when I was just on JB and accepted for the BTEA and curretnyl in College, they make it as hard as they can for you to do anything, its unreal!

On top of this there is problem registering the whole year in College so I can't go in and play dumb with someone else and try say I'm registered and will I be paid. It doesn't make sense applying for JA, even the questions relate to employment etc etc when Im in college

    I don't know................

Oh does anybody know if you are allowed get like a saturday job like 8-10 hours per week for some extra cash if you can get it? just that the part time job I had may have some saturday work for me and dont know if I should just get my p45 to stop all the confucion with the JA etc?

its a total joke, make it as hard as possible to get anything.

I went in again with the forms filled out and was told I would have to have an interview with an inspector or they will call to the house. So JA is means tested and I might get nothing, so what the hell happens then if this occurs but yet I've got a letter accepting me for the BTEA.

Like even applying for the JA is nonsense, makes no sense whatsoever.

@ dots and mike, the only way to get anything out of them is to keep annoying them, calling in, email, phone etc etc, as they are just not be bothered doing anything, same old story with the social welfare

yeah i know they just dont care, ive been told i should be entitled to the BTEA because i was made redundant but they rang me a month ago looking for proof of this so i sent it to them and have heard nothing since. Ive started college but ive got shag all money so im thinking of dropping out and just staying on the dole for the year and then next year il be gaurenteed the BTEA. the government really need to review the whole system. its crazy to think theyed rather have people sitting around on the dole instead of getting them into education ASAP

for those of you that are on JB or JA has your payment been stopped without the BTEA starting. Ive been told my btea will be in the bank this week but I have still been collecting my JB in the post office as usual. I was told to do this by social welfare office when I last signed on.

I stopped collecting mine and didnt sign on the last time i was ment to cause i thought it was illegal to collect the dole while in college? but im still waiting to hear if ive been accepted for the BTEA. if not it will be back on the dole queue for me:(

My JB ended 3 weeks ago as I used up all my stamps. So I'm waiting to hear about this JA before I can get backdated for the BTEA, I have no other income either at the moment.

its a joke. . . try get educated so when we get out of this recession we can get jobs. instead they don't give a toss. . .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 208 ✭✭Trish2007

My btea is in the bank today as well as the extra 500euro. Its been a couple of weeks since I left in proof of registration and I got my husband to call in to the local office last week to query it and its all sorted now thank god.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭isabell

well i was in social today to ask how long i have to wait. the only answer i got is that i have to wait till i will get a letter by post (and somoetimes is taking 2 months and sometimes 3 weeks only). so i have to wait do know how long. and for a question what will happend when my jobseeker benefit will finish and i still wont have btea - i have to go them and apply for a jobseeker allowance which will cover me till i will get btea... lucky people who have already btea

Your Communnity welfare officer is cannot give you money if you are in full time education they can only give it if you are currently seeking full time employment and are waiting for jobseekers allowance/benefit.
I found out the hard way after 4 weeks of no BTEA or dole I went to my community welfare officer thinking i had a genuine case no such luck, now a nearly 6 weeks after registering for college and very very broke I'm still patiently waiting for my application to be put through.
Unfortunately my local office has informed me that the only person there who deals with BTEA in the office has been off sick for the last three weeks and doesn't show any signs of coming back soon but they have assured me that everyone in my area has had their claims held up too!! so that makes me feel much less hungry!!

today i was again in doll office with my waiting for a BTEA...
this time i went to Information and i couldt belive it.... the guy was very nice and checkd for me everything and the reason why im waiting so long for the letter saying 'yes' or 'no' is because.... my application is LOST

i was talking with woman whos doing all this stuff and after 100 questions she said that at the weekend she will check everywhere where she can and if she wont find my application i will have to apply again and she will put me straight away for BTEA
i.e. because my Jobseeker benefit will finish next week (by the way she was surprise that i didnt get any letter saying that my jobseeker is finish soon-she said that i suppose get some notification few weeks before the end of JB) and because they lost my application of course:mad:

so first i couldnt BELIVE IT and got really pissed off but after talk with the woman i feel a bit better and i hope in next week everything will be sorted

its unreal all this stuff with BTEA:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭isabell

    oh and i forgot...
the last time when i was in doll office (before today) i went to the queries and t woman for my questions 'why im waiting so long' answerd quick 'i dont know you have to wait thats all' and that was her solution for my problem...... seriously sometimes i have no idea for what theyre getting paid for... (sorry for my grammar-writing quickly and beeing pissed off:cool:)

enyone who has any problem with BTEA... im with you!
