So I bought Cliffhanger on Blu Ray, watched it once, realised it's a bit nicer looking but still bollocks, so I threw it up on eBay. here's an email I just received.
    Dear jayteecork(*********@gmail.com),

You recently listed the following item(s):

160363577187 - Cliffhanger Blu Ray. As New. Viewed once.

Unfortunately, we had to remove your item because the way it was listed breaches our policy:

    As New

To make it easy for buyers to find what they're looking for, sellers need to make sure their titles and item descriptions accurately describe what they're selling.

That's why listings can only include keywords and other information that are directly relevant to the item and clearly describe both the item and the terms of the sale.

Here's more information on this policy - copy this link into a new browser window:

    WTF?

I've been selling on Ebay since 2003 and never came across such nonsense. It's been maybe a year since I traded there and I've noticed a host of changes, most of them for the worse. Namely if you want to sell in the UK you have no choice but to offer free P&P for games and DVDs/blu rays.

I've been on ebay as buyer and seller since 2004 and I had a similar experience recently.
I put up on Ebay.co.uk a guitar wah pedal made by Teese and then wrote after in the title, "not Dunlop, Vox". This is obviously to get more interest/views and I never had a problem when I did this in the past. This time they took my listing down within 24 hours. Gave me some BS excuse..Annoying though.

Was like one hour for me before they took mine down.

In fairness what on earth is wrong with saying "as new" - it's true in this case. As stated I watched it once.

I was looking at similar items beforehand and they all have "mint" which seems to me to be the same as saying "as new"

I imagine it is preemptive move to stop possible complaints, esp. from non-english speakers who might pick up a description wrongly. If it really is in the exact same state as you bought it then you could list it as "new" why mention it was watched at all, many people do not read full descriptions and ebay know this so probably want to save the hassle of people moaning and having to deal with complaints. It also gives ebay a bad name - many people think ebay is only for second hand goods, I know lots who are suprised when I tell them of shops on ebay and how most stuff I buy is brand new. I think they would want definite distinctions between new & second hand, and just are not allowing any ambiguity.

While searching ebay it can be frustrating when you do enter descriptions and all these items appear that are in direct conflict with what you are searching for. i.e. people who use the search "new" will hit on your item while they might be trying to filter them out, same goes for the "not dunlop" thing. If I wanted a good quality second hand item I would search using the word mint.

AFAIK this is only putting things for sale on ebay.co.uk you could list it on .com or .ie and have UK postage charges. I am still not sure how ebay works, it seemed to change again a few months ago, i.e. I am not sure if you can search on ebay.com and see every single item on every single ebay domain.

What the OP has done is keyword spamming. There's a policy for this that's described here:

    http://pages.ebay.ie/help/policies/search-manipulation.html

You can call it as new in the description but in the title, that's a no no. eBay's search system is mainly centred around the title of each listing and if you put "As New" or "Not Dunlop" in the title, that'll frustrate people searching for new or Dunlop items as Rubadub has explained.

tbh I find that annoying when I'm searching for something and a load of crap comes up with not 'tr909 808... not 5d mkII 50d' etc
It clutters up searches when most people alrent interested in something that is "not" what they are looking for

if its something by the same brand and perhaps an older or uncommon model/version than I think using 'not' in the title is fine.

I wish they would stop people listing 'mobile accessories' in the 'mobile phones' section. Bigtime winds me up

The spamming keywords is a pain in the arse if you're searching for something and you're just getting junk you don't want. Think they were right here tbh imho
