Both front tyres 60%% worn only 9000 miles. City driving. Normal ?

depends on a lot of things. how hard you accelerate, are tyre pressures correct and checked regularly. are they worn evenly if not the tracking is out and they have been "scrubbed".
more info may shed some light as to whether or not that is normal.

I don't know if it's normal but the same thing happened on my 09/2006 Yaris. Owned from new, after a bit more than a year and like 7-8k miles (can't remember exactly), I had to replace the front tyres for they were worn down to the level that the centre grooves were barely visible. On the spec sheet they were listed as "low rolling resistance tyres", something to do with better fuel economy, can it have anything to do with quicker wear?

Tyres should give you 25k+ in my experience anyway, the yaris is probably on track for that or there abouts. The tyres on that auris must be some sort of miracle tyre if they are on track to do 130,000 miles!

    What make are the tyres?

The chances are your car is on yokohamas (SP), They are a very soft compound, and you will probally end up changing them in line with your 2nd service 30000km.Or even before then would'nt be abnormal

Nearly all new yaris come with these tyres, they do wear quickly its in their nature, on tht upside they do give great road holding.
