    From looking at the video again, I'd say the chassis of the Bel Air was well rotted. Look at 0:58 into the video, the cloud of dust (rust) coming out of the sills.

    Ralph Nader was probably right, cars of the 50's weren't safe at all.

    That dust is typical of any that comes from California car! The chassis in these cars generally never rust- compared to the bodies.
